it gives everyone time to get your money, you can't expect to work friday and get paid for friday immediately. Its in your best interest so you get all your overtime paid properly. you'll also appreciate it when your ass gets fired and you have an extra week of pay while you look for a new job

I dont expect to get paid the same friday, but I do expect to get paid the following one....not 2 weeks later.
monishb
Its normal, I work for telus and they do it also.

your interpreting it wrong

"An employer shall establish a recurring pay period and a recurring pay day and shall pay all wages earned during each pay period, other than accruing vacation pay, no later than the pay day for that period. 2000, c. 41, s. 11 (1)."

So that means that they can wait because that is the established pay day.

Oh well i guess....

So really...I could have someone work for me and then just not pay them till 2 months after, without letting them know in the first place?
Pett
no
the law you posted is pretty clear.
a pay period must be established with a corresponding pay day
Cro_Addict

But...

does the law require the employer to tell this to the employee before starting work???
EvilTree
Yeah. It screws you up in the beginning, but you get used to it
DaRoZa
yeah... you'll be glad to have that extra week to slack when you're between jobs later on :P

nope, all that explains is that the employer has the freedom to set any dates he/she likes.

i'm surprised you're unaware of this - how else have you been getting paid?

also, talk to you employer, ask him or her if they've mentioned this to you prior to your employment. like i said, I don't see why they would not, then again, by law they're not technically required to inform you of the law - they just enforce it.
