I work week 1 and week 2, and at the end of week 2 I get paid.
So technically, I get paid on the Friday at 12:00AM. So I am getting an advance pay for the last day :P |

All of that info should have been included in your HR manual or your contract. So, be sure to thoroughtly read it before you sign it, since it contains a lot of very useful information. It's normal for your employer to pay you at the end of the 4th week for week 1 and 2. You won't get paid for holidays untill your probation period is over. Same is with the benefits - you can't start using them untill your are off probation.
I am pretty lucky I work week 1 and week 2 and get paid for first 2 weeks on a friday on week 2. So basically they don't hold my paycheck, but it's probably because I am on a salary, and we only have about 40 people in our privately-owned company, so it's fast to do the payroll. :tongue2 |

dude, the law was established by people who actually did have that in mind - believe it or not, this is in place for our benfit.(it's hard to see at first but it is)
and it's got nothing to do with your employer being greedy, they have no option but to enforce the law. |
bull, i was told many times that its in place if employees decide to steal equipment or sabotage or whatever... thats the only real reason.
Its to persuade the employee not to do anything stupid. |

That applies to me as well.. but I would guess you are a salaried employee.
You don't punch a time clock and are paid the same all the time. |

last november, the firm i work for changed the company which does our payroll.
the only employees that were affected though were hourly ones.
if you are sarlary, you saw no change. you were still paid the exact same fixed amount each pay period in teh year.
our old system was you work the 1st - 15th, and you get paid 2 business days after the 1th... so that could have been the 17th, 18th, 19th... all depends on what day the 15th fell on.
but the new payroll system had to change things. they wanted hourly ppl paid on teh same day at salary ppl... ie. ALWAYS the 15th (or if hte 15th fell over a non-business day, they everyone was paid the last business day before the 15th.
but in order for this system to work, therefore your pay had to be delayed a whole payperiod now.
so...
you work 1st - 15th, you get paid on the 30th/31st now (instead of the 17th/18th/19th...)
you work 16th-30th/31st, you get paid on the 15th.
nothing unusual about this. its hte only way it can work if a company want to pay its hourly employees on FIXED dates like they do their salary employees. |

right, because obviously the worst consequence, if caught stealing and/or damaging the employer's interests, is held pay...
cause you know...the employer is powerless, and can't easily get reimbursed...and then some.
lol... |

alot of places don't want to bother with the cops.
I am not talking about stealing the company's car or the huge laser printer here... but a few office supplies or laptop, small things. |
