Actually most of us that don't live in the US don't hate Bush because he's an epitome of the ignorant American... we hate him because he starts wars in places he shouldn't and gets a lot of people killed in the process.

That was a joke. :p

And I hate Bush for both reasons. I want to stick needles in his face.

Not at all, that's utter non-sense.

Intelligence, which can have several meanings, is mostly a biological process. No one had to teach you how to think. You just do. Ever since you were a child, you had to "calculate" about stuff around you.

Writing, on the other hand, is just a cultural tool. You write words down so you can keep your thoughts, transmit them to someone you can't meet and so on. What it does reflect is your educational background.

Not much. It only affects my opinion when it's an intellectual work we're talking about : For example, last semester I went to a congress with a classmate of mine, who had written an article. When he systematically failed to spell "congress", which is a word we had seen a thousand times by then, I did wonder how much he had studied, and whether or not he had given his best to go there....

But, he developed a software, so he's got to be intelligent, whatever it is that you mean by that.

I remember we had a similar conversation a while back. But the previous topic was about grammar and speech. Lira summed it up nicely with two lines. I don't remember exactly what they were, but he basically said:
Bad grammar and speech != stupid person
Good grammar and speech != Intelligent or interesting thoughts

I can't take anyone who doesn't type or express themselves coherently seriously. This includes punctuation, spelling and grammar. And yes, I think it reflects heavily on their intelligence - Sometimes you can easily see a persons struggling train of thought laid out right in front of you in the form of misplaced letters and horrendous punctuation mistakes, and this is usually backed up with a very misguided view or opinion. Not to make a massive sweeping generalisation or anything.

In the context of an English speaking message board, exceptions include: A, People who don't speak English as their first language. 2, People who make the odd typo here and there. And D, no one else - That's your lot.

What about people who SpElL lIkE tHiS? What gives? People who don't capitalize their I's, first letters of each sentence, and somehow lost the ability to make periods. It's just a simple dot, go on, touch it.

Most people who read my posts don't think English is my first language:whip:
