it could be that they both had little involvement in this but it's kinda weird that dj dan himself wasn't surprised how he got to #5 from #24 in one year (staying on the same spot from the previous year) and having almost no accomplishments throughout that time to deserve such a jump.

It's not an issue of whether or not they were surprised. Maybe they were both completely incredulous. If they didn't know exactly what was done, though, and they hadn't been presented with any direct evidence of foul play on their behalf, then what were they supposed to do? Call up DJ Mag and say "Hey, I don't think I really deserved the #5 spot, could you please knock it down a few places?"

Due dilligence would, perhaps, be getting the suspect (in this case, the marketing manager) to state on record, preferably in writing, what specific actions they took leading up to that conclusion. Or if that's confidential/protected by contract, then at least to state on record that there was no wrongdoing of any kind in their belief. But even if both DJs had done that, it's just a CYA move, it would help in a court case if something truly illegal had been done but I doubt that it would have convinced anyone here of their good intentions.

And assuming they knew this much (they're probably reasonably smart guys to get this far), then as long as there was no risk of getting sued (there wasn't), it would have seemed pointless to pursue the matter.

Let's work with a simpler example. Let's say that you made an assload of long-distance calls on your cell phone, or watched a ton of pay movies on cable, but at the end of the month, instead of a gigantic bill, you ended up with a $20 credit. How long do you think it would take for you to rationalize this and convince yourself that you either won some prize, or somebody had just made a clerical error on your bill? Under normal circumstances, do you think the thought would even cross your mind that someone hacked into the system and changed your bill, or maybe called a CS rep and gave them a cock-and-bull story?

When you trust someone, such as a friend or business partner or, yes, a manager or contractor - you generally don't assume that they're doing anything dishonest unless they give you a significant reason to believe otherwise and are unable to offer a plausible explanation.

Maybe that's exactly what happened here. But I don't know that, and neither do you.

LMAO ..... my friend it will really help if you did some research about what you type here :)

In last 2 years CL has had 3 tracks and 2 CD releases. Currently he is working on Tracks with Joof and is also starting to tour with Joof. As of recent check out his Atlanta gig coming up. In addition CL has played Love Fest WMC DV Burning Man and many other HUGE events. He is also been hand picked by Ferry Corsten to play his event in Holland this year. Your opinion is your opinion ... no body is telling you to stop saying what you wanna say but dont get all hyper if we have a opinion about your opinion.

As for him playing tracks that are 2-3 years old??? again you dont have to go far ... visit the TL forum and then check out beatport and see what tracks were released when :) CL has been in TO atleast 4 or 5 times in past 2 years and each time he has put on a solid performance. you can do a search of the reviews from his parties :)

I am happy to announce that DJ Mag has cleared me of any wrongdoing in relation to the Top 100 poll.

A full page article detailing this will appear in the next issue of the magazine.

Cleared his name meaning he didn't know anything about it and it was purely his marketing manager?

Then there's a good chance that DJ Dan has been cleared as well.

it is remotely possible, considering most of votes come from Europe and North America.

And apparently Chris Lawrence is huge in US. I guess the Yanks need a new trance DJ to push, since Oakey is too ed up to put together a transition together :p
