Yeah I see what you're saying, but the beauty about scandal is that it's still publicity. IE: Paris Hilton can now charge more per appearance thanks to her jail drama being front page news for almost 2 weeks.

DJ Dan and CL have more publicity now then they ever would have simply placing in the top 10. lol Think about it, how much did you know about how Christopher Lawrence before opening this thread?

My point is that they are likely to see their booking stay the same, or perhaps even increase. Honestly, I want to see Christopher Lawrence now again lol

lol, no.

Scandal has probably destroyed more careers than it has enhanced.

Paris is special -- she gets naked.

so you don't subscribe to the theory that "any publicity is good publicity"?

Martha Stewart
James Frey
Britney Spears

This off the top of my head in 10 seconds, I could do this all day Andrew.

Obviously it depends on the scandal but I truely believe in this case their DJ careers are well on place to stay healthy for years to come. lol

heh heh, good point. Publicity is good when the person is a carwreck anyways, or for when you like to see how he/she responds to a public media flogging - the underdog appeal if you will.

But with these two, it's gonna hurt their credibility, especially if their dj skills were average at best to begin with (cough, dj Dan, cough). There are just too many decent djs waiting in the wings that will get those PR votes (and yes, djmag is about PR).

I'm bumping this thread next year and we'll see how its hurt their "bookings"...

IMO, these guys should be penalized in every way possible by some of the key players in the industry. I dunno, perhaps ban them for a couple of years from WMC or other big events or festivals. They should be definitely be disqualified from every industry ranking or list for at least two or three years.

WOW. Someone takes The DJ Mag poll a little too seriously, hah. Whatever fishy stuff happened in the poll doesn't in any way take away from their ability to put on a good set (and after hearing CL in KH, he can definitely throw down a good set), so there's no reason they should be banned from any events. What sort of regulatory body would do the banning anyway? The World Association of Honest DJs and Promoters?

I am sort of curious to know, how did this Manager character knew how many votes to cast via script to have CL and Dan on 4 and 5 spot respectively. I mean Dj Mag does not disclose how many votes each Dj gets until after the result is announced. So by using a script like they say, how did this manager knew that X number of votes will get CL the 4th spot. Why not the 1st spot or 2nd or 3rd?? If he thought that may raise qustions in mind of other people then again how the bloddy hell did he knew how many votes to cast so they get 4th or 5th spot.

Hmmm ???

There are a lot of issues around the rankings. DJ Mag is the authority, thedjlist.com. What do you think of the industry ranking the actual artists so much?

Let me be perfectly clear about this. I think it's a good thing because it gives everybody a voice. It doesn't matter if you are in a little town in the middle of Nebraska or if you're an experienced clubber in London or New York City. Your opinions matter. Back in the day DJs would just go and do a crappy job in some city where they just didn't want to be at, or they just weren't feeling it and they would be, "Whatever. I wish this night would end." Now you have to be on top of your game. Every time you go somewhere, you can't put on a lame show. It doesn't matter if you're in London, New York, at a festival. You have to bring you're A-game. So in that sense the polls have kind of given everybody a voice and made the DJs take it seriously. But I think what has happened lately is the spirit of the polls is being manipulated with a lot of people cheating and I think that's where it's going wrong. Sure, everybody has their parents vote, or tells their buddies to vote, or everybody votes from their Hotmail account and then from their normal email account, everybody does that. That's no big deal. But when you hire a company to pad the votes for you and you vote thousands of times, then what you're doing is screwing the fans. That's not legit and I don't know how some of these people can look at themselves in the mirror. I don't know how some of these people are up on stage and not feel that they are there for the wrong reasons. They are there because they cheated. For me it's about integrity and about making the fans happy, and making a difference in people's lives. I was put on this planet to make people happy through my music. I can't do anything else. To me it's a good thing but shame on the people who have cheated, and I really hope that the people who are doing these polls really put forth the extra effort to make sure that they are safeguarding against these things. Like I said, shame on the DJs that cheat and how can you stand on stage and look out at the audience and feel confident.
