Gee, that was a good idea Johnny... |
err...no.
I worked all that by choice. Sure, I could work eight hour days, every day and tell my employer to get ed when asked for more, but that's not the way I do business, and neither does my boss or anyone else at the company. When there's deadlines to be met...we meet them, whatever it takes.
People complain about being stuck in jobs etc. Maybe if they got off their arses instead of complaining about trivial like having to stay back for 30 minutes extra, they might be doing better.

i thought a capitalist pigdog like yourself would love workchoices? :D
im loving how every single study that has come out says that AWA employees have worse pay and conditions. gee, didnt see that coming!! |
My parents operate the second biggest tourist attraction in Victoria, employing around 80 staff. The government made them bump up all their employees' hourly rates by $2, despite the fact that they were paying 16 and 18 year olds $17 an hour, which is pretty fair! |

pretty much. especially in corporate america. find a nice cushy government job. |
I think that there are actually quite a lot of cushy jobs in the private sector. In my experience, if you're getting screwed in a job (without being ridiculously compensated for it) than you're just getting screwed in general. I've been there before and I took it up the ass because I had preconceived notions about everyone having to take it up the ass to a certain extent. But there are definitely some solid places out there that will treat their people well and as a byproduct get solid returns. My new company pays well, has a 35 hour work week, allows compressed weeks if you want to work an extra hour a day and take every other friday off, I get 27 days of vacation with the option to buy 5 more, etc. And these aren't lazy people who work there ... most people from my group came from banks like jp morgan or deutsche. Because my company espouses such a good work life balance I can definitively say that I am perfectly willing and will end up working long hours or at home to acheive a sense of accomplishment for what I am being rewarded with. The only downside is that there are people who will inevitably game the system. And that simply requires good hiring practices and effective managerial due diligence. Yea it might be a gamble but I think it yields more productive workers in the end game. |

Well said.
That's kind of how it is here.
Here, we get treated very well and work hard as a result...or work very hard and get treated well as a result. Either. |

about 3 summers ago, one of my friends didn't get paid at all during the summer. they just kept ing everything up. luckily he didn't need the money, he was just working to save, so at the end of the summer he just got one giant ass check. but still |
