Industrial, hehe.

A lot of contemporary trance might have come from house-techno roots, most of the electronic music I prefer came from EBM-Industrial backgrounds. Aside from Psy, I really don't listen to contemporary trance very much any more it seems.

Isn't James Brown! The Beatles! sort of a knee jerk reaction? All of James Brown's songs sound the same, and The Beatles suck. If you really really listen to them long enough. Compare them to today's (good) music, and you can tell right off. I'd even say The Beach Boys have a better repertoire than both the Beatles and James Brown.

Well, answer the question tho'. Are you saying *kneejerk* James Brown and The Beatles too?

I'm not even a fan of the Beatles, but to deny their influence is just asinine.

+1, Beatles and Floyd.

It is possible for music to continue to evolve, new genres etc, I mean, we might as well be saying "the first drumbeat ever, probably around 3000BC" /thread.

yeh on that note, has anyone thought of music in the near future? How much more different can it get? we already have the weirdest experimental music going on...

isn't sony working on some experimental "ion-beam" (laser?) technology that, when beamed into your head, will affect your sensories and sound filters, etc. I'm sure artists will figure out a way to with this.
