A British teacher has been arrested in Sudan for letting children name a teddy bear Mohammed.
Gillian Gibbons, 54, from Liverpool, was detained on Sunday on suspicion of insulting Islam's prophet.
The teacher let her class of seven year olds choose the name as part of a school project.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We can confirm a British national was arrested by police in Sudan yesterday.
"We are providing consular assistance."
A spokesman for the British Embassy in Khartoum said Ms Gibbons taught at Unity High School in central Khartoum.
He said: "The children chose the name because it is very common here.
"This happened in September and the parents did not have a problem with it.
"We are in contact with the authorities here and they have visited the teacher and she is in a good condition."
A source close to the school said one teacher at the school was angered by the naming of the teddy bear and complained to the headmistress.

i mean come on, its the most popular name in the world FFS, i wouldnt be offended if someone called a teddy Matt or even god or jesus for that matter

Naming a teddy bear Mohammad is idolatry. That is why you'll never see pictures of Prophet Mohammad in a mosque or Muslim art. No "thing" can represent Mohammad or it's idolatry. Why do you think Muslims were so angry when the European newspapers published caricatures of Mohammad?
