alright need to help a friend out. She has a budget of 750-800 and is asking me for advice on what to get. Either a B-52 Prodigy FX (no clue what the hell that is haha - looked it up and seems like this cheese all in one) or two cdjs and a mixer.

I would say individual is best but at that price i cant help her out because im not familiar with the prodigy.

Any recs?

I say a good mixer and a laptop but she wants the entire dj feel lol.

How serious is she about DJ'ing? If I was already at $800 I would save up more until she can get a pair of CDJ-200's + DJM-400 great beginner to intermediate setup. If she want's the 'true' feel without being dissapointed in her final choice.

My $.02.

great advice. I agree on everything

Why not start off on vinyl then she can always move to serato or equivalent later.

Think two CDJ 200s and DJM 400 is more like $1,000 if you were to get new, maybe $800 used. Your best bet is probably TTs and a mixer. Probably Stanton ST-80s (approx $250 each) and a Numark DXM-06 mixer...you could get all of that for $750-$800.

No idea how into it she is. She just told me thats her price and wants to know what to do with it. I told her about vinyl and she insists cds are the "better" option...and she has no idea how to use a laptop to dj with just a mixer i think so thats where her "dj feel" comes in haha.

From what i know, id say in that case its best to get better cdjs then the mixer - least for starters. But that doesnt leave much left for a mixer so i am lost.

I guess the best way to put it is whats the best of the worst in the scenario haha.

How much would you say 200's and a 400 would total up to? 1100 or so?

thanks for the help so far. so you would say to pass up on that all in one thing sge mentioned? what about a package from guitar center?

all dj equipment is very "you get what you pay for" i suggest 2 cdj 200's (about $250 ea used, $350 new) and i myself have the djm 400 which i think is worth it. i thought like you in the sense that i bought the 2 cdj 200's and a cheap behringer mixer thinking that it can't be that bad. next thing i know about 3 months into it i decide i need an upgrade already.

not saying you need the djm 400, i'm sure there's other alternatives that are a bit cheaper and great for beginners... just don't go for the low end products.

oh no no this is not for me. i saved up and took buying seriouss. This is to help a friend out. I have a djm 600 with cdj 800s. Bought them with a retailer discount for 35 percent off and i love the choice i made.

but she is a mixed bag.

So you would say the 200's with the 400 is a better bet than either a pair of Denon-dns 1000 and a denon dnsx100. I never used a denon so cant help her with that.

If she already has a laptop tt's and serato/final scratch may still be a good option though.

All I'm saying is Pioneer is club standart. My friend is getting 200s and DJM400 and I think this is known to be a very very solid and reliable setup.

Don't get me wrong, Denon is good. I used them a lot few years back, but compared to Pioneer, I much prefer Pioneer.

Yea i am a pioneer and allen and heath guy. Then again though i never messed with denon. Only what i mentioned and numark.

So the cdj200's and a djm400 would be 1000 and from my experience with pioneer and you all, its a pick over others.

Now what would be sligthly lower if possible? What can we reduce? I mean i woudnt go lower than the 200's since its risking it, but there are a few mixers below the 400. Is there anything that might be not so far from the 400 but help the girl out with her price?
