$750-$800 budget for equipment - need to help a girl get stuff (pg. 2)

There's the Xone32 which is cheaper here in Canada...the Xone has the mighty filters (I got the Xone92 so I know what I'm talking about) but the DJM has all the EFX time based effects and the CDJs have 3 jog effects (Filter, Jet, Zip). So CDJ200+DJM400 you nearly got an EFX1000 !:D

(ok the EFX1000 has much more control, configurations and features, but that's a hell of a setup for a beginner)

yea i trust a&h mixers but the djm400 is cheaper than the xone32 in the states for some reason.

Anything less by a&h or pioneer that would be fine with the 200's? Or should i tell her to go with one of these mixers and then i need to give her lower priced cdj's.

Does anyone know what that phantom thing is or how the denon dj box is? If those are so bad then she will have to understand a minimum for equipment needs to be higher than 750-800.

Denon isn't THAT bad. I mean it's much better than Gemini and still better than Numark. don't get me wrong I like Denon stuff, but if she wanna get serious about djing she should head for Pioneer CDJs. Denon's mixer are great too. But if you really wanna save up money for now, get CDJ200 and a Numark mixer...when she'll have the money she'll upgrade her mixer. But in my opinion it's a loss of money. Better buying something good and more expensive now than buying cheaper stuff and upgrading after.

Ok thanks almost there. What numark mixer would you say would work at this low a budget with the 200's?

Which ever mixer is cheap and good and works with the 200's ill tell her thats all she can afford. I agree that cdjs are more important than the mixer in most cases especially to start. The fundamentals are in the mixing and not in the pinpoint acuracy of the mixing and effects for beginners.

Needs to top at 800 with the cdj 200's
http://www.tvcity.tv/productview.aspx?ID=1269
which is 660 or so a pair

leaving 140 left

(ignoring taxes and fees now)

Seems all i can find in that range is a
Numark DM1002X MK2 Scratch Mixer
or a
Behringer DJX700

*argh a toss up now is either an effect or the cdj needs to scratch. The 200's i know dont. but maybe a cheap mixer has a scratch effect sound haha. No idea why she needs that crap lol.

How should i end this?

How about a Numark dxm-06 for a mixer?
It's 250 brand new so used is a lot cheaper. My brother has one and it's pretty solid for a beginner.

I spent about $700 on my current setup. I got a pair of used Denon S1000, which are pretty good. I'm just not a big fan of rubber buttons. They have .1 pitch increments which sucks compared to Pio's .02, but it made me learn how to ride the pitch pretty fast (it's pretty important imo because you will not always beat match perfectly). As far as the mixer goes - I got a DXM06 for $180 brand new on ebay. It's very solid and I have no complaints after a year of usage. I will probably keep it for a long time.

i think out of the two i listed above this one top both of them. Only thing is she wants to scratch... i told her screw manually doing it because the price costs more. So now i need a mixer for her that has a scrach effect. It doesnt sem this mixer has one.

Anyone know if it does or the other two i listed do?

OR (haha)
i could tell her to get the denons then because they can scratch and then match the price with a better mixer since the denons are slightly cheaper than the 200's.

thanks for all the help so far.

if she wanna scratch, then the CDJ200s might be a problem...

is there a mixer with a scratch effect? i can tell her its for the better to just hit a button that does a scratching sound and get all the features the 200 has over the denons. But dont know if there is such a thing.

Otherwise i guess its the denons 1000S and one of the three mixers listed:
Numark DM1002X MK2 Scratch Mixer
Behringer DJX700
DXM06
JD8180
i don't think there is such thing as a scratch effect on a mixer. if that is going to be an issue then you are going to have to rule out the cdj 200's :sadgreen:

but as you said, that means more money for a better mixer! i don't know anything about denons so i can't say anything about it. but for pioneers she's going to have to get the new cdj 400's which are going to def be out of her price range.

ok thanks for everything everyone. So looks like its going to be the denon's 1000S with a Behringer DJX700 - unless there is something better for that price range...

and hey with this thread we helped the others who have the same budget cap get the best they can - though in this case the best was limited because she wanted a scratching set - but otherwise its the 200's.
