Does it matter? He acknowledged defeat and did not execute any arbitraty actions to overrule the results. George has a point, this is what a democracy is. Democracy doesn't necessarily include limited terms. Democracy does include however asking the people and executing what they vote for. This is what Chavez is doing. As the saying goes, peoples have the president they deserve. If most Venezuelans vote for yes, yes it should be, even if other Venezuelans don't agree. That is democracy. If you want democracy you have accept the outcomes even when you don't like it because majority rules.

Also, it is quite the fallacy to extrapolate the results from your town to the whole of the country. Maybe you happen to live in a anti-chavez area of town. Considering your posting here and in enlgish, I would be tempted to say that you live comfortably and probably live in a middle to high class area of the country. Obviously in those areas there is a concentrated anti-chavez community as poor Venezuelans are the ones usually voting for Chavez. Feel free to correct my assumptions.

At least until the next round of "disappearances," that is.

Or until he figures out how to pull a Putin.

No matter what happens I don't expect to see Chavez leave the spotlight, he loves ranting too much.

It will be interesting to see who he grooms for the position if that's what's going to happen.

If the price of oil will drop substantially, expect Chavez to cut oil to raise the world prices. If not, then Chavez is just using threats and propaganda to win support and such. Actions speak louder than words. Why would Chavez cut off his main source of regime income, the oil sales to USA, its biggest client?

In case you didnt know, elections results, especially in very very close ones like the Venezuela one was, the results must only be officially posted when ALL votes were counted. You're lucky they were posted at 1AM, I personally think they should have posted them later, recounted everything and made sure that such close referendum was properly counted. Something that doesnt happen in democratic countries all the time. For example, the famous Florida 2000 elections votes ...

at 8 or 9 pm all votes were count whit this new electronic system the count is automatic

The last tree time that I have vote before 9 pm we have the result and they only need 3 hour after all vote site`s are close to know the result....so by 8 or 9 pm they have the oficial result

so why they need to delay the result for more than 4 hour? that kind of action create a lot of strees

is a fact that chavez have a big party in the presidental house but was canceled at 8 pm and the stage was dismount cuz he allready know he lose

My mon was whitness choose by CNE and when the site is closed the only need to print the report from the device and all the data is send to CNE HQ

I'm sorry that elections workers cant work very fast to satisfy your hunger for fast information. You should sue them for stress problems and other possible health problems. It appears that to you your personal motivations outweigh careful and accurate work of elections system.

Electronic voting systems have been plagued by errors and controversy, illegal manipulation. Havent you seen the movie Votergate? You are quite fit for an Orwellian world, my friend! Go get yourself microchipped while you are it, it makes things even faster and easier for you - no need to carry those silly papers, eh? Also get a tracking device to make sure that you wont get lost / people will know where you are very fast - you're all about things being very fast. Support a one-card system where your entire life and everything about you is on it. Also get one of those fancy 12 digit numbers so that you know exactly what you are (not who you are).

And you also dont have to worry about any paper trail. Noone to count the ballots, plus there's no need to fear that people in charge of the machine can easily manipulate it. Plus, who cares about all that programming and code and what it does when the numbers are crunched ... I mean, machines never falter or break down, much more accurate than counting dam ballots!

Why don't you go ahead and address my post? Or are you just going to keep ranting about the same thing over and over again. All you are doing is speculating. That the results were posted later, is not necessarily evidence that the results were altered. Considering you have no actual information of how the process works, your doubts don't amount to much. At the end, even if Chavez is an , he is behaving in accordance to how democratic s do, by respecting the people's vote.

Heh, it took America nearly a year to count the votes in their 2000 elections!
