Music to study to

Tis the season for finals, falalalala lalalaoffschoolalready.

Normally i can't work with music on because it distracts me. But near the end of the semester, with all the essays, assignments, and exam studying, i get sick of working in silence. The earplugs come out and the search for sets to study to starts.

They can't be too hyper or hard...just something groovy enough to keep you going when your mind is telling you to get up and run around. My tried and true faves are PVD from exposure 04 and Pure Pacha mixed by Pete Tong.

So what do you guys listen to when you're studying, writing papers or working?

not trying to brag here or anything but i guess this could be a plug of sorts...

I know of 3 people that have been listening to my latest set while studying and they've heard this set far too many times that they know exactly when aspects of the tracks/set change

I don't think this will help anybody but I'll briefly speak to my own experience.

I study to one song and one song only: Paul Kalkbrenner - Gebrünn Gebrünn.

I imagine that I've listened to this repetitive techno song (with very few lyrics) over 1000 times.

Studying to any other song seems weird to me.

Honestly... Classical music works wonders when it comes to studying!

i tried listening to classical last semester. i get too caught up in where the song might be going and then i end up listening more to it than thinking about what i'm working on. same thing happens with jazz, as much as i love it when i'm not studying.

mellow edm works well for me since its got that 4 beat that just recycles itself and is like rhythmic background noise.

thnx for the heads up on the set liam. downloading as we speak....

jazz house ftw (Mark Farina when doing jazz stuff, Mark Grant and other more mellow, loungey jazz house)

Generally I like mellow, low bpm stuff for studying, like
deep house
prog house. really digging Neil Quigley's set from Exposed. or trancey prog house

those interested in jazz might wanna check out Dave Brubeck (grab the greatest hits cd at least)
