| Maybe but after De La Hoya unloaded a billion punches on Mayweather and still lost the fight, I pretty much gave up on boxing. If there was ever a rigged boxing match, that was it. |

were you watcing the same fight? de la hoya connected on 20% of his punches, at most; He was fatigued after round 5; He couldn't put together an effective flurry; and he didn't provide one solid "wow" blow. You can't win a fight like that. Mayweather did just enough dodging to win that fight. While it was close, mayweather definitely won that fight. And i was rooting for de la hoya.
as for rigged boxing matches, that's bull. there is no way de la hoya is losing a rigged boxing match in vegas. he is the vegas golden boy. DOes anyone remember his fight with Felix Sturm? Sturm worked de la hoya all over the ring, but yet somehowe de la hoya still won the fight by a unanimous decision. clearly, the reason he won was his potential match with bernard hopkins that vegas didn't want to lose out on.
For everyone else, just admit you want hatton to win because he's white. i admit i hate mayweather too, but with boxing there is a sort of national pride. I could never see myself rooting against an american boxer, unless the opponent was puerto rican or american. Hatton is probably a huge douche bag himself, it's just that he's always being a douche bag in england. boxers are notorious , so just expect it. GO MAYWEATHER!! |

huh?
I want Hatton to win because I am, first and foremost, a fan of him as a boxer. I have been following Hatton since about 00-01 when he was just getting his start on Showtime, have seen him fight live in Manchester, never miss his fights when he is on tv. About him being an , thats absolutely not the case. He is well known as being a nice guy. Myself and my gf went to see the Barrera - Morales 2 in Vegas, saw him in person and he was the nicest guy in the world...drinking, chatting it up with the people that came up to talk to him. No idea where you are getting that most boxers are notorious s...guys like Floyd, Roy Jones, Zab Judah, etc, are all s....but I have a feeling they were pricks before they ever became boxers.
besides him being a great boxer, I am routing for him because I have feel that I have much more in common with the guy than i do Mayweather, and not because we are both white. He IS a nice guy, compared to Mayweather who is a complete in about every way, and always has been. |

you can count the nice boxers on your hands; they are the exception to the rule. most boxers grew up being the toughest dude on the block, and where i came from the toughest guy on the block wasn't the nicest.
steven, you can clearly root for Hatton, you're a friggin brit, but almost everyone else is american. Boxing is like the olympics, there is so much national pride in the sport.
Zack, if you met the dude in person, and have actually been a fan for a while, then you absolutely should root for him. i do not believe most people on this board heard of the guy before because he's fought 7 of 44 fights in the US. Until the show and this match, i would be willing to put my salary on the fact that maybe 5 people on here knew who he was. Most people have absolutely zero reason to root for some random british boxer from the UK. How else can people on this board relate to him, besides race. That leaves race as the most logical reason to root for him. everyone can be PC and say that's bull and that's fine, but it's probably not true.
to ad to my national pride thing, most people don't have a particular favorite boxer. boxing isn't a sport where that sort of loyalty attaches. therefore, most people pick the local or national fighter to root for. i don't see much difference if you people were rooting against the US in the olympics. , i'm sure non of you were rooting against him in 96 when he won the gold in atlanta.

| I'm rooting for Mayweather cuz when ur that good, you can run ur mouth. Everybody loved it in the 60s when Ali did it, but now when Mayweather does it all of a sudden he's arrogant? Not saying Mayweather is as good as Ali, but he is probably the best boxer around right now. |
