Lack of English skills from people whose first language is English is becoming scary

I don't get it...

Over the past 3 or 4 years I've noticed a HUGE increase in the number of people confusing:

1) Loser / Looser
2) Your / You're
3) Then / Than
4) There / Their / They're
5) CDs / CD's

Ok..the bottom 3 are a bit trickier for some, but the first two are no excuse... I have know people who came to Canada with no formal english training that comment to me about how some people mess up the first two and how it puzzles them how people don't know the difference.

Mind you my english has suffered somewhat from being online for so many years - excess use of chat room / forums can do that to you if you're not careful.

Here's a nice one to screw ya up:

They're a good band; so, I don't think you're a loser if you use that loose change in your pocket to buy their CDs from the store.

I've noticed this too! I run a rather large car orientated forum and the bad ones are:

crome (chrome)
breaks (brakes)
incurance (insurance)
bonet, bonett etc (bonnet)
relice (release)

I think the worst I've seen has to be:

"evry1 sed i was weird cos mines always crashin!f'uks up all the time.
if it sez no1s online or sez u have no1 on ur contacts list then set up anova account, sign in2 it then sign bak in2 ur ova 1 (thats y i got 2 hotmail addresses)& they'll all come bak agen!
if it dont let u sign in, u either gotta leave it 4 a bit cos its totally f'uked or download it agen...but the nu 1 crashes more than the old so i got the old 1 bak!
Have fun"

 :eyes:

oh geezus <--- see this one all the time
but really, come on now ppl
we're all educated here. we all got some sort of schooling if you're here in the first place
i used to do that all the time when i got hooked to chat rooms, then i realized if i'm ever gonna survive thru university i better start typing write
and i think those ppl should be ashamed of themselves. it doesnt take that much longer to spell out the whole word. i bet if we tested how much faster is it really to type no1 and no one the difference would be so minimal that no normal human being would notice

a piece of advice: if any of you who type that they are in a chatroom wnat to survive in the real world, i suggest you start typing the way you're supposed to. you may be young to realize that right now, or you may not care or whatever your reasons are, you will have to learn how to spell properly and if you don't then its your loss, and yours only

people are lazy when it comes to typing, so they use slang!! That's just the way it is.

That's slighty off the point and i know what you mean.

Swamper! for Number 2 you should've put it as UR instead of YOUR, thats how most lazy typers such as myself put it.

Are you taking the piss??????????

If you aren't, lokk carefully how u've typed it!!!!!
Tranex02
I agree...
i must say, for some reason i started mis-spelling some words , maybe that's because the lack of time to waste on double checking a word...but still, certain words like YOUR & YOU'RE should be rather straight-forward....
I think it gets contagious sometimes...

:D
brunette

he's not refering specifally to slang words, but more of mispelled words or 'wrong usage' of certain words...

hhahahahahaha see what i mean??
some people just do it because they are not paying attention anymore, they're used to typing like that and to them it seems normal now
when i wrote my first paper, i wrote 'thru' everywhere instead of 'through' and i lost tons of points for that. that was my biggest and only lesson to make me start spelling properly

good for you for spotting those G K :D

Haak
Noticed this too (alot of people get to and too wrong :p ). English isn't my first language, but I notice this all the time from people here with US, Canadian and English flags. :whip:
