i estimated that between the free drinks + water and 10 minute wait to get in the VIP entrance, it was probably breakeven on the $80 cost over GA tix.
at Giant Village this summer probably came out ahead on the drinks part :) |

| hey does anyone know where I can find the pics for this event? I saw about 4-5 photographers in the main room the whole night and the only one I found pics from was the one who upped their pics to the Giant website but I can't save them because they are on a flash thing and I want to save a few! Please let me know where I can find the pics. I checked pubdisrict and didn't see any there either! |

Growing up in LA and in the US, I have a tipping mentality where we feel obligated to tip.
But it's funny, when you go to Europe and places like Spain the bartenders and taxi drivers don't expect or feel like a tip is obligatory. They feel like they should get a tip only if they went above and beyond their call of duty.
I would tip em anyways.
I got to Giant Maximus around 9ish. There were no lines at the bar, but an hour later it was a hell no. The bathroom line was pretty long, but the security looked the other way if you wanted to go behind the Andy Gump luxury restroom truck. =) |

I'd say it was more like everyone's extra money spent for VIP was flushed down the world's fastest toilet like one-ply tissue from the 99 cent only store without a plunger in site and with all the plumbers on strike, but everyone has their own interpretation... :wtf:
An explanation, apology and some kind of way to make it up is in order, but I have a giant hunch that it may never come... |

Thing is thats the way it works.
From the small things like tipping, to the major things that the lobbyist pull out of there ass to get bills passed or denied.
Sad, but thats the way the world is. "Money makes the world go round" right?
On that note, i wont lie i was one of the people that was pulling 5/10's out every time i got drinks. There was no way i was going to wait in line.
I think the only line i waited in was the porta potty behind roger sanchez tent, i think i waited like 5 mins to use it. The good thing about that was that i spoke to Cedric Gervais most the time i waited :tongue3 |

I think the point was that by letting people cut in line, he was costing himself a lot of tips from people who got cut in front of. |

- Roger Sanchez was absolutely sublime. Brilliant stuff. The atmosphere in his tent was the way it ought to be. Great sound quality and great track selection and virtually no muppets in tent number 2.

By going on reputation and club owners I know that he's played for, Sanchez is very particular about his setup, especially the sound quality of the PA system. It also makes sense they would try harder with the quality for him, as tiesto plays coarse big room trance and sanchez is a lot more refined. |

The event was horrible just horrible. I will absoinglutely never ever go to another event organized by these morons.
SIX DOLLAR BOTTLED WATER?! REALLY?!
ROUND OF DRINKS WAS SIXTY ING DOLLARS!
TIESTO PLAYED FOR 45 MINUTES THEN WAS CUT OFF?! WTF ARE THESE CLOWNS ING SMOKING?!
Worst new years ever. Tiesto pwn's and I am still a fan, but let's be real this event was total . |

Actually cheaper than last year.
Giant Village and last year's Giant Maximus were both much better organized. Probably not much they could've done about the Fire Marshal. No excuse for overselling VIP and the way overpriced water though. |

Are employers/bar owners in Cali allowed to include expected tips in an employees salary? I know some bartenders in Cali who make BANK because they are lucky enough to make over the Cali (or SF City) minimum wage and then get big tips on top of it. Not sure what the laws here are, but I'm curious!
I always tip accordingly at bars. Simple drinks, simple tips. Complex drinks, complex tips. Take care of me, you get taken care of in return. I remember when me and friend years back hit up a bar in SF 3-5 nights a week and before we pretty much stopped going there, we could drink $70-$100/night EACH (oh the good ole days) and on some nights our cards would just be handed back to us, and on others we'd be charged like $12 ($10 was the min charge for a card there). We just made sure to take care of the tips, lol. Stopped going there because two of the three cool bartenders left (for better jobs) and the other only worked like once every two weeks and never knew when!
Anyhow, in other countries you are right. And in some other coutries (ie. Japan), tipping is culturally rude (many take it as you trying to give them money to work harder next time). Still think the weirdest thing in Japan is how you don't leave a place with your glass (beer) empty...always leave with the glass full! |

well correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Tiesto still play around a total of 3.5 hours? i thought the 'break' was around 20 minutes and then he played the rest of the nite.... |
