+1
i'm way too drug-ed to be able to focus long enough to read that... esp when the first line starts an inevitably rambling, and possibly pointless venture into another story about the internet's amazing transformation into something wonderful from something filled with epic nerds...
anarky
It's talking about how when people are part of a forum, they're slightly more educated about drugs and the more people at a party are from a forum there will be less incidents.

most 'parties' these days happen in the early hours of the morning.. Staying up past midnight is hard for us old folk ;)

hi there :)

I'm the author of the article narcism has linked to... cheers... Yes, it is a bit long, I originally wrote a shorter version and was requested to increase its length to become a feature!

The project is about how people involved in different dance music scenes are using online forums and other internet sites to connect/socialise and get information... and how this may influence drug use, positively and negatively.

I'm not assuming you are all eligible for my project - not everyone has used drugs of course. But if you would like to, you can view my survey here.

thanks to those who have already completed, i appreciate your help and your input :D

Should your responses be entered into the dataset for analysis?
eg. you might not have taken it seriously or you might have found it difficult to concentrate due to tiredness, drinking or taking drugs

It's for my PhD. I work in drug/alcohol research, have been doing this for nearly 6 years now! It's interesting work, mainly I have done a lot of research interviews with people who use various kinds of drugs... either to see what the current trends in drug use were, to better understand the reasons behind people's drug use, that kind of thing.

The rationale for this project is to explore the connections between internet and drug use - it's a wide scope - ideally the results can be used to assist govt and other organisations when they design 'drug interventions', so they can be more realistic, ultimately less of a waste of money and more useful to their target groups.

According to a friend of mine who works in government, apparently they are realising that govt-branded drug campaigns aren't very useful, and want to support peer education, a lot of which occurs online. This is just one thing that I hope this project can be used as evidence for, but it's not the easiest idea to sell politically (it's about harm reduction, which many in our society oppose, as i'm sure you're aware).

I've written more about the project and the approach I'm taking at the http://www.ndri.curtin.edu.au/drugsonforums if you want to read more :)
