Possible WMC TA Meet & Greet BBQ ? (trying to be planned) (pg. 2)

| 2004 myself ane vtec organized a dinner on a sun and it was a success, nearly 70 TA's including DJ's Markus Schulz and Suzy Solar showed up, I gave a small speech at the end, and alot of people recorded it, still to this day I havent seen it yet, the year after it turned out to be a disaster, alot of people wanted to come, this and that, but when it came down to it, people skipped out on it, like a majority of them were waiting in line across the street at nikki beach to get into a sausage fest, quite sad I might say, so after that, we just decided not to do it again, after the headache we went through. |

I like the BBQ idea... problems: Who is going to pay for $100 worth of burgers/beer/etc only to have nobody show up? Who wants to run it all day?
I can imagine the frustration after everyone bails.
What about this... pick a location, maybe a restaurant, 2 hour time slot, no purchase required for anyone, no serious planning for anyone... just a chance to meet some TAs. I'm sure Suzy Solar or someone would show up if we asked her. I'll be happy to help plan... thoughts? |

thing is, if you limit the time, you limit the people that will show up. a certain time is only good for certain people. if its done all day then that really fits most peoples schedules.
all we really need is a couple fltas to help out getting the equipment and thats it.
for food and drinks have it be a byob (Bring Your Own Beer for those that dont know) deal. if you wanna eat something, you bring the . if you wanna drink, you bring it. i will gladly post links to the various publixs and corner grocery stores on south beach. my mom has a condo on the beach and thats where i grew up so i know everything pretty damn well. its not hard if you have a hotel on 13th and ocean, to stop at the corner store on 13th and then catch a cab or even walk down to 1st street.
we only really need the help of locals for the djing equipment and coolers and like that. but everything else, is pretty damn easy.
oh and obviously id be happy to help plan as well. :) |

I guess I question peoples willingness to bring . Is everyone really going to bring ex: hamburgers, buns, plates, cups, toppings, beer, etc?
Will the city get mad if we are playing music? Is there a power source in the park?
What time frame are you thinking? Noon-6?
How sick would it be to get a place like Blue for a night. Get Edgar, Suzy, Victor, Kaenow, etc. Do a meet and greet / trance night. Maybe I'm dreaming... |

Good idea Pat,think location would be the hardest to figure out. Everything else can fall into place easier. I'll wear a miami shirt ;)
And I for sure would bring , wouldnt mind sharing some stuff either :p |

The only place we can do something like that is Hobie Beach in Key Biscayne. We've been 5 for 5 at this location. Witht the exception of my b-day when it poured.
The real problem is doing during WMC. It is a hard thing to pull off. I mean I'm down.. I got the Generator.. Coolers....Big Tables & the Grille. The rest of the guys have the music.
We can try for the sunday March 30th... That is if people are still in town...

I agree Sunday would probably be the best day to do it.. Other then that everybody is going to be on their own party schedule.. Maybe if it was like 8-10pm on wednesday or something we could get it to work but otherwise it would be hard to fit in between the day and night parties.. |

manny, i doubt a lot of people will either be in town or up to go to hobie beach. i think accessibility is a huge part of making this work. thats why im thinking south beach and during conference week. after people will be too cracked out/tired from all the partying.
im personally thinking wednesday noon-8pm or something.
ima try and call the location tomorrow and find out about music volume and alcohol and if we need reservations or whatever. im pretty sure its open to whoever though. its probably just a first come first serve basis. |

then we gotta think of something else... lets try for sunday then, but enough people still gotta be in town to make this worthwhile. thered be no point in doing this if only 5 out of towners show up. |

sunday would be great cause anything before that is a cluster-f. you know how conference gets...we couldn't keep even five people together. :p
