'Just wondering how much you guys will be spending for shows/clubs. If you want to include airfare and hotel, do that too but break it down for n00bs like me, just so we get an idea about how much we will probably end up spending.

Break it down to daily costs, etc. Big thanks :)

depends on where u staying....if u rent a car....depends on a lot of things...i would guess 200 spending money per day would be good enough

WMC is expensive...drinks are pricey as are door covers...

I say if your going to travel, do not limit yourself...Its Spring Break! Its Music! Its Partying! Fun In the Sun!

Some nightclubs your going to be seeing people be all flashy (its miami) so if that stuff gets to you...you may be disappointed...

I say bring as much cash as you can bc if your having a ty time the bartender can always turn the nite around for ya

In the past a week has set me back anywhere from 3000 to 4000...for some friends ive seen them spend as little as 1500-2000

- im thinking club covers will cost me around $400, 500 for a week
- im going cheap with food this year im thinking $40 max a day (3 meals)
- $100 - $150 on booze a day
- If I travel downtown for space/pawnshop i'll spend probably $40 (15 to 20 each way) on transportation....maybe less bc a friend has a car
- in prev years id have another catagory :happy2:

** then save some money for shopping/water/sun tan lotion/emergency cab money (like if your tired)

in miami less is not more

Larger clubs or big namers like Space, Mansion, Nocturnal, etc can easily run you up a $60 cover charge during WMC for huge headliners. PVD and Sander traditionally play Space Friday night during the conference and the cover for that is usually something outrageous like $70. (The most I've ever paid for a club cover in my life was at space during WMC for the Meganight with Sasha, Digweed, Desyn, Zabiela, Luke Fair, et al, and that was $70.) Then beer costs $7 (8 with tip) and mixed drink maybe 10-11. If you go to space for sander and pvd you can expect to drop at least 100-150 for that night alone, not including transportation, parking, hotel, etc.

Smaller venues, or clubs that aren't run by jackasses like Louis Puig, will be far more reasonable. Expect maybe 10-40 covers for most lounges, smaller clubs, and most places on south beach in general, with drink prices being moderately lower than Space. Note however that Fifth, the new club on SoBe, actually had drink prices far higher than Space when I was there for SOS last year. I think a beer ran me up $9 or something outrageous like that. Buy a flask or something, or a camelback thing, and bring your weapon of choice. Don't worry, you will not get searched on entry under any circumstances (in my experience).

Food shouldn't really be that big of an issue, there are plenty of reasonably priced joints that you'll find if you just walk around. Hotels are another story and I don't have much advice about that since I've never booked one in my city. You'll have to research that on your own, but good luck. You MIGHT want to consider booking a hotel somewhere outside downtown or the beach for far cheaper rates, but that depends on how comfortable you are dealing with public transit and the inevitable taxi ride now and then. I'd suggest using Google Earth to reveal all the hotels in Miami, and then figure out how far they are from South Beach and Downtown, make a few calls, see what rates they offer and if they have any kind of shuttle service to and from the airport or downtown or something. With any luck you'll find one close to the Metrorail which will take you right smack into downtown.

COR VERSION:

There's no upper limit to how much you can spend, but expect to drop at least a hundred bucks a night for shows alone, depending on how much you drink/consume.

Does Space sell a week pass and if so how much does it go for? Also I read some threads about how its hard to get on Space's terrace, so one your already in the club, you have issues getting up to the terrace?

some good reviews going on in here ;)

take whatever your budget is and double it...
gimmebeatz
space does not sell week long passes.....plan on $1500 spending money for a week...if not more...that amount usually works out just right for me but a bit more is reccmmended personally

the first year i went i spent about 800 total.......including hotel!!!...last year i think i spent about 1000 cash...not including hotel....and i went to a party every night.....pre drinkng helps thats bottom line

It's vacation, bring a ton of cash and expect to spend it. Have backup cash incase something happens. I remember cabs from Space 2 years ago were asking $60 to the beach... not a big deal if you have 5 people but if you're alone, tough luck. Drinks are unbelievably expensive everywhere you go, but it beats being sober at a show. Bring a grand after hotel and flight and you should be ok.

one of the problems with space is that for big events...they run the club like its two clubs...they open the club at say 10, 1015...and they open the stairway to the terrace once a) the club inside fills up or b) around 12-2 am depending the nite/amt of djs upstairs...so u see this mad rush of people leaving the downstairs area for the upstairs area btween 2-4 am...

this would be ok if it was a normal club and no one was being let in after a certain hr, but bc space does afterhours...u see all the people that partied in sobe or other area clubs in downtown show up 4 am, 5 am...and then they try to make it in as well...

club space is like ing rush hour traffic - thats the best way to exlain it...4 am and 5 am is rush hour...

Good analogy with rush hour.

I seem to remember space selling week long passes, or "any 3 nights in one week" passes or something. I ALSO seem to remember a million review threads every year after WMC saying " space and their week passes" because people drop a ton of money on them and then get screwed. Honestly I gotta recommend against going to space at all unless you absolutely cannot skip the show...and if you do go at all, get there very early and camp out where your dj will be playing.

Every year I hear horror stories about people getting in on time and then getting thrown out when afterhours starts; or they don't get kicked out and cannot get up to the terrace (or vice versa, can't get from the terrace to the main room); or you have your week pass and its 5am after south beach closes but you still can't get in even with your pass; OR, if none of that happens, you are inside space jam packed worse than sardines with 10x too many people than should fit inside the club.

I think you can do it for under a grand (not including plane) if you do it right.
