no not BECAUSE he uses Ableton... i was there.. thats my video.. i saw the whole damn set on Ableton... i know that some DJs mix live even in Ableton but this was clearly a different story. |

If it was just that, then I've seen videos of Armin twisting the out of those knobs while I kept rewinding the video to hear the effect it actually had on the music, which, as far as i could tell, was none.
One way I caught a DJ is through the tracklistings of the set. I remember listening to a John B set, and really appreciating the way he layered two tracks when he mixed out of one into another. Then I listened to another set, and he did the EXACT SAME THING in it. Of course it could be argued that he just knows how to do it that well live. I dunno.
The cynical part of me would say that it also depends on how big of a gimmick the DJ is. The bigger the gimmick, the less surprised I would be if the music came second to his gimmicks, and thus was pre-recorded. |
Well if it's a youtube video the sound might be delayed.. but yeah usually you can tell if someone is playing with the EQs, like in all those Eddie Halliwell videos.
Also with the mixing of similar songs together, some songs just sound amazing next to eachother, prime example is Mojado - Kaktus and Sander Van Doorn - Riff |

hahaha I was there too, and spent an hour watching him. I could clearly see him picking the songs, and I could see the invidual channels being used.
The fact that you even brought up the cdj's (being on pause) clearly indicates that you have no clue what you're talking about. |

be careful of who you're accusing of playing a pre recorded set... unless you know exactly what's going on and how the person DJs, easy to falsely accuse someone |

| I was there too & tong was actually playing on ableton. If you choose to use ableton whats the point in faking it? You may as well not even show up to the gig & just put a cardboard cut-out of yourself LOL! |

| How could someone stand there for 2+ hrs & fake it. Ableton might do the beat matching but you still have to program & that’s the hardest part imo. |
