Thank You :)
I want lens for few purposes, 1. Wide angle for panoramic shots like in my night picture. Needs to have very precise focusing ring, for manual focus in very low light. I also want sharpest glass i can get. 2. Lens for taking portrait shots with narrow depth of field for pretty bokeh. Is there one L series lens that will suit my needs above all in one? Or I need to go with different lens for each purpose? Money wise, i can see myself spending $1000 or more on a lens, but only if the quality difference is justifiable and i will not need to upgrade for a long time.

To help with your question, there are soooooooo many different types of lenses for Canon DSLRs. What sort of focal length are you looking for, or what kind of photography are you into? And, more importantly, what's your budget? :p If you're loaded, I recommend going for the Canon L series lenses, they're just ing awesome. But pricey :(

Yeah, they don't really make an all purpose lens, sadly. If you want to get into a bunch of different styles of photography, you'll most likely need to get a few different lenses to suit what you're doing.

Something to bare in mind though, is that all the lenses you use with the 400D will have their focal length increased by 1.6 times (ie. If you were to use a 100mm lens, it will effectively be a 160mm lens).

For lots of information/lens reviews/pics etc. check out www.fredmiranda.com . They're extremely thorough.

Thanks eRRaTiK and Sushipunk for the links. I will be doing some heavy reading on this stuff over the weekend. I have also found very good advice on photography at www.kenrockwell.com.

I’m still strolling around here, trying to get into this forum and I found this thread.

I’ve been looking through the pics now.
And I have to say that I really like some of these! They are in the style I like, the style that no of my friends understand.
(Just need to quote “Great minds thinking alike”)
The focus on a thing that ppl usually is unable to see the beautiful in it or something in the front and a background far away.

Maybe I will dare to post a pic someday :/

one could argue that photography is less about thinking and more about seeing what others may not be able to see. I agree though, there is beauty in everything around us.

Okay, okay photography is not about actual thinking but it is not just about seeing
It is also about imagination, feeling, associations and that's where your brain comes in
Almost everybody can see a pic but few can understand it

so yes it was the wrong word but jeje the important thing is to see the beautiful

I'm really a tourist photographer but sometimes ones just come out pretty nice. My wife who does a lot of photography really liked the penguin one only because they were cute together like a couple!

Skyline Drive through the Shenandoah Valley, VA

Arc de Triomphe, Paris

Boulders Beach, South Africa

there are penguins in south africa?

I have many favorites, what can I say I'm a pic-whore. Lower-res versions don't do justice on a lot of these so find higher-res links above each pic. You can also see basic pic info in the deviantart filenames.

If you want to see more check my myspace - unless you have dial-up (I hope you don't). :tongue3
