It's not about YOU or ME liking it or not, babes! it's about the people! I dont like trance... many people don't, it doesn't mean that GUV has to stop bringing trance djs to the main room. |
Of course its about the ppl but its all about you liking it, would you promote for the gallery otherwise? and I would be happy if Guv stopped bringing the trance in the main room I'd rather have trance in KH so don't start a trance vs. house argument with me please! |

I'm sure that it will still be used for the all access parties just like Orange Room doesn't have hip hop during the all access nights.
While I am sad to see it go as I often found refuge there on regular nights it isn't very surprising with the attendence falling. From a business perspective Gallery MAY have brought 50 extra people to Guv on a regular night and they would have to pay at least 3 DJ's for the night. I'm sure they will go back to seperate entrances like they had when Gallery first opened for the indie rock nights. It will attract more of a drinking crowd. It will expose more people to the rest of The Guv who may otherwise never go on a Saturday night. Remember this is how we spend our free time, how we relax, where we hang out with friends, party, unwind, where we go crazy and get ed up, but it is their BUSINESS. Good business move in my opinion.
I personally am getting tired of hearing the same resident djs (Dekoze, Sidney, Nathan, Carlo, VJ's, M&S, etc.) at almost every club, lounge, bar in the city (Galley, FW, CZ, Hotel, Straight, TIL) . You could literally go out from Thursday night to Sunday night, go to a different place each night and hear the same one or two djs at each place (Hotel, FW, Gallery, CZ, Straight). No matter how much you love a dj it gets old hearing them each and every night you are out. It's good to see some of the newer locals finally getting more attention (jonjon, Matt Schafer, Jeff Button) and we need to push and support the other up and comers (Nuera, Matt Shaw) at every opportunity we have to show the promoters that change is good. Hopefully Acid Lounge will continue to give the newer locals an opportunity entertain us while making a name for themselves in our scene. Without turnover things get stale and boring.
Change is often scary and sad, but change is necessary in everything we do. |

whatever you say people, it was fkn RAMMED again last night! And i literally had tears in my eyes looking at all those people dancing up a storm , throwing fists in the air, screaming, clapping, singing... going bananas at 5:30am in the morning! This was third saturday in a row when the bouncers would turn on the lights but NO ONE would leave the dancefloor! AND I MEAN NO ONE Like a fkn Rebel! SCREAM IT LOUD!
i was getting goosebumps, I was literally ready to cry. half of those people didn't even know that last night might have been their last party at the gallery! Mental Picture! No words to describe.
And if u were not there in the last three weeks, you dont know much... we have two more weeks left, LETS FKN ROCK IT! |
Crybaby!!! :P
I was not saying that the Gallery isn't a great space. I always loved the parties in the Gallery and always had a great time. The point I was making is that The Gallery is not the final DESTINATION when people are going out. Most of the crowd that ends up having an amazing time is going to The Guvernment or The Drink and The Gallery ends up stealing the show. Not many people set out to go to The Gallery (why do you think they shut down the seperate entrance and no longer kept the door shut until after last call), maybe 50 people. So from a business decision I totally understand why they are changing directions in Gallery and Acid Lounge. Iwill miss Gallery. I am also willing to see what Charles has in mind and I am looking forward to hearing something new and fresh inside the complex. |

had some fantastic nights in gallery over the last 2 years and 4 months, and I'm glad to be able to say I was one of the original promoters hosting in there... BUT.. it started getting old for me about 7 or 8 months ago and i stopped hosting on a regular basis.
The room defintely needed something to spice it up. While I don't necessarily think rock is the best idea, the peeps in charge are good at what they do and I'm sure it's a decision that's been well thought out. |
