Oh yes, and that dude has some real issues......
I have to say Tyas, even though I've heard from many sources that he's a nice guy, has never amazed me in terms of his creativity. It is well produced (technically) but has very little life.
The fact that so many people (on here too) have such infatuation for his music does make me think that the genre is in real trouble.
Having said that I don't really get why people are saying that 2001/2003 to 2005 were the "glory days" of trance? 2000 was when it all went downhill as far as I'm concerned (especially if you look at the dramatic increase from then, of remixes of "classic" tracks and a sharp decrease of original music). Aside from a couple of classics every year (i.e. Whiteroom in 2005) the general shape of trance has become over-produced, homogenised, unoriginal and formulaic, something that Sean Tyas has contributed to in a big way (not forgetting Tiesto, et al).
Listen to some of the essential mix's from the mid to late nineties (before it was called trance) and you will hear much more diversity and rawness in the productions, somehting which is sadly lacking in the scene today. |
