Wow, some intense stories above. The only gambling game I'm addicted to is strip poker. It's more fun with real humans though. |
its no fun playing that alone....you sit there naked and getting cold. |

However, I do like to play a little Casino War every once in a while. Me and my buddy would get bored at the Montreal Casino so we'd play War haha. So much fun...
|
I've never played Casino War but really want to try it some day. I like Craps too......best odds for the players.......can get really exciting....you either win a lot or loose your shirt quick....I went through $300.00 in 15 minutes at a $5 craps table.
Black Jack is just boring for me know....I've played it so much that there is no thought anymore....the only way I will play Black Jack now is if I get to play the entire table but that costs too much money. |

Craps is one game that I really want to learn. I've played a bit but I don't really want to play it until i've perfected my knowledge of the game... |

Yes, I have a close friend who is seriously addicted to horse-race betting - a textbook example of a gambler in need who should seek professional help, but who doesn't want to (he was in some group talk sessions before, but said that they didn't help). As a result of his addiction, his marriage and family life broke apart, his wife (with their kids) moved away from him and they've been living separate since then, for about nine years now. As an indirect result of this gambling habit he also lost his job and they lost their mortgaged house, etc. A pretty bad story. These things all happened to him before I met him and when I first met him, I didn't know that he had a gambling addiction problem at all (of course he didn't tell me about it), and I also didn't know about his family story. In the first few months that I knew him, I actually went with him to Woodbine to watch some horse racing once (he didn't actually ask me to go, but I asked him if I could come along, cause it was on a Saturday and I thought that I would probably be bored at home), and while we were there, I went to the washroom. There was a poster near the washrooms put up, probably to fulfill the lip-service mandate by the government to have a deterring warning sign about the dangers of gambling, and it showed a jockey on a horse in run, and above it it said "Know when to pull the reins". And I remember pointing it out to him (cause I thought it was interesting and kinda noteworthy) and at the time, I had NO IDEA about about the fact that he was a gambling addict, about the scope and seriousness of his addiction, about the severe bursts of gambling he experienced in the past, or about how it ruined his married family life...
I myself have never been interested in gambling, cause it's not my style of entertainment at all; I don't like that kind of risk-taking with money and I don't believe you can really "earn" money with gambling. Maybe, by chance, you will win if you're lucky, but that is a one-time thing and not at all representative of how much you can actually lose if you become a severe fan of it. Also, I am not really a thrill-seeker of the type that gamblers want, so this kind of "entertainment" would be more of a nuisance and annoyance rather than about enjoyment for me. I tried to help my friend to stop gambling, but after some time of knowing him, I see more than ever that it has to be the affected person's own will and desire to quit which will push them to stop, and pretty much that is the biggest driving power behind their ability to succeed. |

Admittedly, sex and gambling are my biggest addictions in life. I laugh at drugs and alcohol in comparison to what it's capable of doing to me. Gambling is truly "the dark side" in every way...
Overall I'm in the black, but there was a time I was stuck in the red which seemed like an eternity.
Hilarious, all I read on this thread is how much people have won. Duh, hasn't anyone ever lost BIG because of gambling??? Definitely, know I have but I'm still ahead! ;) |

The only reason why I gamble is for that adrenaline rush you get when all of your money is on the line. That rush you get when you say those two little words "ALL IN" is totally worth it! |
Yep, my friend once told me that he once bet $1000 on a horse in a race and ...lost. That was money that could have otherwise been used to the benefit of him, his wife and their three kids, but he lost it gambling at a racetrack. And moreover, that was more than ten years ago, so those thousand dollars probably had more value then (in terms of buying power) than they do now. :(
(Sorry for the sarcasm though Jeff, I don't want to insult you or anything. Just adding my own two cents worth of story to this). |

haha. No worries. It's all in good fun. I know gambling definitely has its negative consequences. I've gone through them an realized that there is more to life than that.
If anything, I'd prefer to invest my $1,000 in Nortel or something like that...
I Prefer White Collar Gambling when it comes to the big bucks :D
(PS. I'm surprised u know my name!)
