id bet money that you didnt even know about trance when trance was at its peak, when oakenfold was paving the way for the future. and your argument dies horribly when you bring tiesto into the equasion as a backup to your case.
you'd probably pay £100 just to sit next to tiesto while he dj'd. and when you noticed that he might be cheating a little or 'god forbid' using a premade mix cd and pretending. you would be on TA within 5 mins of getting back and start writing the same thing about tiesto. |

Narcotics and one song got me into listening to trance and at the time I happened to be attending a party where Oakey was headlining....Changed my life.
Fast forward to 2007, las vegas, Tabu nightclub the man himself played the original mix of Sexy back by Justin Timberlake. Not a remix but the original. I walked out extremely drunk and dissapointed.
The dude used to have skills, never heard anyone mix like him when he was on top of his game, he was flawless. But I think it is time to retire. I've heard he is going deaf and I'm sure after so many years of constantly playing on monster sound systems it has taken its toll.
Best set ever was him at Nocturnal Wonderland 2004 in California when he dropped Amoebassassian - Piledriver....I wept and wept. |

I've only heared 1 set of him, and it contained Tiesto - Traffic. So that went straight to the carbage for me. I don't really know any of his own productions, except for Ready Steady Go, which I can enjoy.
But on topic:
It would find it hard to believe that he plays prerecorded CD's all the time and gets away with it.
In my perspective you cought him on an off day (don't we all have them?)
and you got bummed by paying to see him that time. |

oakenfag uses the same premix everytime. in ultra 2005 he set was before tiesto.... and he "played" traffic.... before tiesto:haha: :haha: :haha: |

| I've seen/heard of a couple of local DJ's in the bigger clubs in my hometown walk away from the decks and it would "magically" mix in to the next song. I never thought I'd ever hear of a big name DJ put on a mix CD. It makes my blood boil. People pay big money to see these guys and realistically a 5 year old kid could put on a mix CD. |

And about the Oakenfold debate....I highly respect him and I'd be bummed out if I payed to see him put on an elite performance and it was brought to my attention that he was using a mix CD....but I'd go on with life....
Edit:And to Krispy Kreme, that sucks that you had to be exposed to that on multiple occasions, I'd never go to exclusively see him again if I were in your shoes (or I would be near the front of the stage/dj booth with my back turned to him during his set! :D ) In the end you went looking for the man and instead found a mouse....
Personally, I think it only gives more room for us aspiring DJs to break into the game. |
