RETIRE IT!!! and give it to MEEEEE

working in somewhat advertising related industry, i can easily say that canadian advertising is NOT the best or even close to decent...majority of the successful campaigns aired here are made in the US which itself is lowgrade compared to ads anywhere else in the world...

Regardless of geographic location.... 80% of advertising is for you don't need IMO, so I've learned to HATE marketers/advertisers(though I love their methods of persuasion).

At the same time I can't help but fantasize about working in that industry... not to make money...but to see how many people I can convince to purchase 'said' product that is clearly not a necessity.

a) for the shirt: www.thinkgeeks.com (plenty of brilliant ones to buy there including the t-quilizer which i was debating to wear that night)

b) the problem with advertising all over the world is u have 2 aspects in each agency that rarely see eye to eye.... the creative department dont know how to "sell" and the marketing side doesnt know how to "create" so whatever u see is the best that they can come up with working together because its too many minds working together that dont understand each other

II AM DRUNK and pleasently surprised Im yet to be called on it...(don't ask why I my drunk ass is stuck at my computer please)

i AGREE totally with your point. Which is my catch 22. I appreciate the art of selling/marketing something which is BS. It tickles me as much as a catchy chorus in a hit song does.

At the same time I LOATHE those campaigns which I find repetative/rehashed.

Infomercials are my best example. For over DECADES their are DOZENS of ab/diet machince/programs that are all clearly full of that I laugh at.....yet I can't help but feel like I am the shmuck because I critisize these products/services instead of CAPITALIZING
on the 'goofballs' who belive in these things. I swear the next 'big thing' could be 'EDManiac abs....12 proven dance moves!!!!lose 20 pounds in 20 days....no prescription... just follow my BS die

MY PROBLEM with advertising is that I can appreciate the result while HATING the motive.

COR version quoting the CLAN

In my heart, there is only one Cheers.

I partied many a nights there, and ended up DJing at the nightclub next to it for over a year.

I agree. The cheers theme for Kelsey's is absolutely awful.

When I hear it, I simply can't get the Simpson's version out of my mind - especially when I picture actually going to Kelsey's, or any of those other horrible restaurants.

So many terrible commercials - maybe thats why I just don't watch TV. Too bad I can't mute it for the others in my household who do ;)

I wonder if Cheers in Montreal would have some kind of lawsuit out of this.

When you hear the song, you think of Cheers, not Kelsey's, so even though they don't have the rights to the sing, it may cause confusion with their clientele.

Another Kelsey's style restaurant chain... Seen few of those around in S Ontario

forget the chains... go to places where food is made from scratch. Not that many around anymore but there are still alot. Usually they are the dodgiest looking places too!

I eat at this korean place all the time. All homemade food, no MSG. Beats prepackaged chains anyday. Oh and most chains get their food from GFS (Gordon food service) so it's correct that you are pretty much eating the same stuff everywhere you go.

it bugs me more when there are series of commercials that are annoying from the outset.

firstly the montana's deer and moose on the wall

worse still, the stupid rogers kids with episodes including:

"aw it's your mommy"
"thank you!... did you get me a plan?"
"ow, ow, a music phone, she wants a music phone"

and last but not least
"we're laughing WITH you"

let's not even get started on the bell beavers with their recent bizarre parody of ocean's 11 which in no way ties in to a story about HDTV...

nonetheless, i think we can all agree geico caveman rocks.

rant concluded.
