Love that quote. :eyespop:

E = MC^2 essentially tells us matter and energy are the same thing. We are in essence just a form of energy.

I know, I'm really trying to see if there is a way we don't exist. This thing we call reality could be a dream, or maybe our universe is a particle in and of itself of a larger reality, or even a computer simulation!!

no.

Alright - so here's something relevant to what I'm working on right now, a few questions and thoughts for you all that I hope will elicit some interesting or helpful responses.

What if I were to argue that our lives as individuals, and particularly the understanding we have of our sensory perceptions as individuals, are all part of a series of self referencing loops stemming back to the first instance of life (however that may be defined isn't necessary - just the idea of "first life" will suit our needs)?

A few implications to think about:

01. If this is the case, what does it say about our capacity for language? Chomsky has long advocated belief in the existence of an internal mechanism for language that functions in the same capacity regardless of the specific language being spoken, and what I'm wondering is whether or not we could theoretically find a "starting point" for this capacity, and theorize self referencing loops that reach back to this point as the source of communication for the whole of life.

02. What does this say about a metaphysical God? It seems clear that we still have some concerns about a first cause/prime mover necessary for all of this to unfold as it does (even as a feedback loop) - would a position advocating existence as a series of self referential loops be more likely to push for some type of first mover (external or internal, however you'd define it), or better suited to a more reductionist view (and if so, how do we talk about the "beginning"?)?

These are just kind of off shoots of the paper I'm working on and thoughts I've had while reading this thread - they aren't particularly well developed ideas, yet. I'm hoping one or two of you will maybe provide some insight I'm missing - or at least find the notion entertaining.
