In other words... If you wanna see Astral Projection, speak up! Psy is most definitely bangin, and fits more than one or two elements of the club in many ways...

1015 and San Francisco have been bitten by the Psytrance gods like JOOF and Yahel... I say... create a post and see what happens.

:D

that's good to know... i noticed that lately 1015 has indeed love the PSY trance... or maybe has always loved it but it's hidden love...:stongue:

sounds like something might be in the works??? Get a hold of Josh Allen from LA. He might be able to help you get AP.

Astral is amazing and if possible having them do a live set would be great - it isnt really live just sometimes added sounds and melodies here and there. The new cd of theirs is FINALLY supposed to be out this year. In LA everyone said they tore it up - tried to go to it but had midterms in Colorado and was out of mileage saving for WMC.

Its odd how psytrance works around the world. It was solid 10 years ago if not less all over, then decreased there and is now getting solid in the states. It is still huge around the world but festivals like full moon in germany among others are getting less attendance. Brazil is still rocking though with psytrane events and so is japan and london.

when given a chance, lots of people seem to really enjoy psy (i think j00f made a lot of new fans on friday), but i think the scene/genre has a hard time marketing itself. even for me, i don't have enough time to keep track of the artists/tracks. so i just stream and download dj sets, and never get around to finding out what/who is hot at the moment, nor do i own many psy mp3s. also, it doesn't seem like psy has many opportunities to cross over during most djs sets, and when a track does it doesn't really get any credit as being psy. also there is that goa/psy association with the stereotypical dirty hippies partying at burning man or on the beaches of goa india... kind of like the sphongle crowd will be, or the tantra stage at how weird festival, which by the way was rocking it at 150bpm at one point, and didn't at all feel hippie psychedelic. maybe there is some combo of a multi-room sphongle/j00f kind of line up to appeal to all kinds of fans?

^^^ at least that's the way i see psy. love it, listen to it, but very uninformed and out of the loop on it.

u hit it on the spot raf... psytrance has sooo many subgenres within itself... i say i love psy trance, but in reality i dont like all kind of psy... lately i settled to a speficic sound, bassline, or melodies, in a psy tunes... and if it's good it's good no matter wat kind of psy it is... i love it!

We were into the goa scene hardcore back in '96 - '98. Back then...MAN MAN MAN...we saw, Return to the Source, Baktum 13, Kox Box, Doof, Hallucinogen, Bypass Unit, Union Jack, Tsuyoshi Suzuki (bangin' back in the day), Goa Gil (he played at Nikita (1015) for Summer Of Love one year), Flying Rhino, TIP, Blueroom, I could go on and on...we caught them all in and around SF during that time. I miss those days...and it did get more low key, but we caught some great parties here and there at Somarts plus some awesome three day events north of SF and at Mercy Hot Springs outside of Firebaugh.

All I know is these days being busy most of the time with work and family, I am glad to see when 1015 brings out current DJ's and live performance groups that are in the psy realm. So if there is a chance to catch Astral Projection and others...that would be insane and we would probably be front and center :D :D :D

Some of us never forget our roots. The newcomer audience doesnt know about the Goa Psy days. Very few of us have been exposed to it, and its good its still very much alive in SF.

I too have many psytrance tracks I never play because of what my timeslot is. Chances are when I get to play headliner slots again, you will get to hear more Psytrance from me next time around. Who knows.

Trance in general is always being challenged by other genres out there like Electro, House and Progressive. I could go on and on about this, but ill stop here cause it will turn into another huge discussion.

Ill always love hard driving trancebeats. Especially those Goa Psy days. Amongst loving this genre, Commander Tom, Happy Hardcore and Jungle before...

Glancing over at Yahel's CDJs on Saturday, His BPMS were set at 145 peaking at about 147. JOOF on Friday and Yahel on Saturday was a primetime example of its power here in San Francisco.

There was a time when you wouldnt know when to go to 1015 because both nights were good. Im sure you all can remember those days.

Fridays may be a possiblity for something big to happen, all it needs is to be coordinated correctly. Alot of hard work is needed to rebuild its success, and an audience like you who have a love for dance music.

It is great to see there is still an audience.

Yahel always brings a great crowd here in LA, alot of hot isreali women:eyespop:

glad to see that some isrealis up there got the memo, they are def a unique crowd. When i play with yahel, astral, astrix, offer nissum, up here, there are about 1k regulars that show up everytime and party there assssss off! They are very supportive of their djs, as long as they are up there and they get the memo, they will show up everytime.

Hey Josh, i tried over and over with Ryan Dykstra to get him to call you (he is the guy i promote for in colorado) and he still has not yet called. Guy is a huge flake. Sad thing is he is the main guy to get psy trance artists in Denver. I will keep pressuring him, he just slacks off and does his nookings in a strange manner. Eventually he will give you a call haha.

As for the scene, I agree - it is def seen as a ex hippie movement for today by many. In fact, most documentaries ive seen about the scene have psy when talking about it being the source for pills and drugs haha. The old days were great - sadly i missed many of the artists since i was young. I saw union jack at ultra - didnt feel them that much though. They didnt take the music anywhere really - sounded like sytrus synths for the most part.

One thing about psy trance is it is going into many directions as opposed to what used to be one or two forms of it. Now many are using the rock element to psy and im not a huge fan of hearing it. I think its great to have with a few like Infected, but with everyone doing it, it really is destroying psytrance.

Well, if astral can happen before the end of august - count me there haha.

ahh saturday night, where do i start? i knew yahel would be where the fun was so i didn't even attempt armin. ish started the night off with a stellar set imo. i'm glad you had rizo record it so hopefully you can get it put up soon, i need new workout tunes! the tracks u ended with were really good. i knew it was gonna be a good night when i saw the floor filling up very nicely by midnight, i took a quick tour of the club to see what else was up and most of the people had gone to the main room. this included the ever ready to party israelis, hehe. they are a crazy bunch but damn they are fun on the dance floor. they def support their dj's. once yahel got on i was really impressed with what he played. i've been listening to his productions for a long time and i thought he played a great selection of the harder stuff versus the cheesier. he played some vocal tracks but they were bumpin, liquid love, inta omri, and the others ppl already posted. taj finished the night up very nicely, i haven't heard taj play psy for a long time but the track selection was excellent, way to go taj! you should bust out these psy skills more often. a lot of yahel fans in the crowd asked me who you were and stayed quite late to keep listening to your set.

i had a great time hanging with the TA's as usual and it was great meeting you JB and your wife. I'm glad you were there to witness the tuxedo print tshirt guy get down and hump the floor, damn that was epic!

oh yeah i have to give props to rafal and tommy for gettin hella faded and lasting all night, still on the dance floor for the last track, fun times!
