um... I don't support the conservatives at all, infact I'm a member of the liberal party, but your facts are a little off. when the liberals were moving towards decriminalization, that wouldn't' have meant it marijuana would be legal. it would have mean that rather then getting prosecuted criminally you would get a fine(ie ticket).
Possession of marijuana is an indictable offense. You don't get "tickets" for that. you get charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for that. It's a schedule II drug.. possession could result in a maximum 5 years in prison. That's been law since 1996.
C-26 doesn't increase penalties for possession of marijuana.. it would set minimum sentences for marijuana traffickers and marijuana growers. |
Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure if they had gotten to the point of writing "tickets" before the liberal party was booted. Either way, the police i'm sure in many instances were "looking the other way" before with regards to small time marijuana possession but now individuals will be charged more often for that offense. This doesn't have much to do with C-26, but is more of an "unwritten rule." |

What a shame ..... and I was going to go for the 1st since Jan this weekend, thank god I decided to take a break from the scene when I did ....
Funny story about a year ago I was busted before for possession of several substances and we met out lawyer at CZ who was friends with the crown and he got us off with a $700 fine. |

i agree with you Rach, I'm far from being a dad but I do think about the mistakes politicians are making and the reasons they do the they do... just to get re-elected. A war on drugs is gonna do what exactly?...
this just goes to show that media myths and moral panics are huge in our society, giving the public the impression that those of us who prefer these kinds of clubs are usually stigmatized with the label of being part of a "deviant" subculture. stupid politicians and their vested interests |
Thank you, that's exactly what I meant but I couldn't manage such eloquence on a Sunday night :) |

what do they do with the marijuana once they seize it? did people get hassled for having a couple j's on them? I know at the hot box cafe ur allowed to smoke j's there but why is comfort zone soo different? i mean why did the police bother with weed? coke and g should be targeted. weed should be legal to smoke there. just my two cents/ |
so its alright to do some illegal drugs but not alright to do others.....okay.....that makes sense. |

Possession of [more than 30 grams of] marijuana [or more than 1 gram of hashish] is an indictable offense. [Possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana or less than 1 gram of hashish is a summary conviction offence]. |
Fixed Evan :) |

| To those feeling bad about the lost jobs if CZ goes down: They're not exactly skilled jobs. I feel more sorry for the construction workers who lose their jobs. The bartenders and bouncers will find another place to work; CZ wasn't their career path. At least I hope not. |
