| well i did have my gripes about certain things not being where they are supposed to be in Leopard, and their file system layout, but other than that, i was pretty impressed with it's functionality. just got to get used to the apple layout. :) |

while i dont disagree it does take getting used to, i dont like to be treated like an idiot with the user interface, nor do i want to be using the "search" feature to find basic things. thats just ridiculous. i hate their UI as its NOT intuitive. nothing is at your fingertips with easy access compared to windows or linux. there is no "start" menu for the collective home for the shortcuts. i have been seriously perplexed by this so much. how can you not have a "home" for all your program shortcuts so you dont have a million desktop icons?! ugh there are more things but ill keep my ranting off. |

pvd: ok, im going to give you a word of advice. if you go pc, lower the mount of ram you get, bump the hd, and the screen and gfx as high as possible. ram seems to be the single most overpriced thing in a laptop. this makes the overall cost of the laptop cheap and effective. screen and gfx are the things people want more of but cant upgrade later. |
My friend just bought a laptop that is not compatible with XP. While the OS does load, his video is crap and no drivers are found for his built-in WIFI. This includes searching for 3rd party and generic drivers. The offical word from the manafactuer: There is no XP support for the laptop. |

I think that this type of question is the same as someone asking for suggestions on what type of mixing gear to get. The only right answer is what you think is going to be best for you.
I prefer my Powerbook as a laptop. I'll also be buying a Macbook when the time comes that I need a new one, and I'm contemplating buying an iMac when I end up replacing my desktop PC. That said, it might not be what you want. As previously mentioned, go to Best Buy and look at everything they have. Then head over to your Apple store and look at what they have available. Make sure to focus on what it is that you're going to be using it for the most, and go with what will accomplish that best for whatever your budget can afford.
Try, try, try. Don't write off gear like this until you've tried it out. :) |

| Vista hasn't crashed on me once since I got it in September. Just make sure that the hardware and software used are compatible and everything is fine. My XP didn't crash for 2yrs or so either. |
