It isn't done yet. There's going to be an entire new platform.

That big hole out front, in front of the clock. You know, the one surrounded by dirt, construction equipment and signs that say "Danger - Construction Area".

I can see how it's confusing.

Also, the screeching of the wheels has nothing to do with the bearings. It's because the train cars roll in the turn, shifting more weight to the outside wheel. The wheels are just like a train, steel on steel rails - designed for straight track and long use. Some systems use rubber wheels to get around this.

I wish the TTC would put money into things that are MORE IMPORTANT, there's probably things that need fixing but oh well museum is a must first. When TTC complains for more money im going to look back at this renovation at museum station.
StereoPrincess
i highly doubt it's the ttc paying for it.

and i love it!

speaking of fixing, they really need to oil those wheels! every time the train makes slight turns (St. Clair station) or full-on turns (Spadina-St. George and Union) the squealing is unbearable

Its usually not the wheels that are squealing, or at least not the massive bearings the wheels are mounted on. Typically the noise comes from the friction of the wheel wall rubbing against the track wall, which, typically amplified in turns. Not really possible to lubricate that.

As for the station, it looks ok. I think the money would have been better spent on cleaning up the rest of the stations.

 thanks Captain Obvious, my point was that there is NO construction site at Union, not on a platform, not upstairs
the only thing that's new there are advert. posters that they stick on the walls every week

union is getting a 3rd platform to deal with crowding issues. you're not seeing it because it's behind the wall. i'll try to find a render later in the day.
