maybe you are lacking in knowledge of the american culture. i'm not fat, i am not a criminal, and i am NOT george bush. to make such a broad generalization about a country is pretty lame. your country is MUCH older than ours. we are only 200 years old, our government and society is still young(and sometimes dumb). there are many other countries you can point your finger at in terms of social/government problems before america. look at our country's size compared to yours. i would say that we have things more together than any country close to our size and larger (ie china). statistics and news articles put out by the media can not possibly give you a picture of what america is really like.
please don't make statements that suggest that all americans are a certain way. yes there are a lot of ignorant people here, but i think that to say that americans are a certain way is equally ignorant.
come live with my family for a month and i think you will have a much different perception of america. we are not ALL bad people like some may think. there are good and bad people from every part of the world.

What you see on TV or internet doesn't represent what's really in the US. |

| Being a person that immigrated here rather than being born here, I have to agree that overall the country is very lacking in the knowledge of the world. Although I do agree that not everyone is the generalized American stereotype otherwise. |

I've have friends that have studied in the US and also met a few americans who did their masters here at my Uni. And they agreed that the vast majority of Americans have very little knowledge about practically anything beyond their borders. |

Very similar to people in London. Loads of them think England begins and ends with London. |

really? I have several friends in London. Only got good experience when it comes to London people. They were very openminded.
But yeah I am aware of how the UK peoples perception is when it comes to London people. |

Isn't it like 80+% of Americans don't even own a passport? |

This would not surprise me ^ |

London seemed like a very open and friendly place for me, but then I was in an international degree. The biggest issue I saw was some backlash against all the immigration but that's understandable.
And yeah, wouldn't be surprised about the American passport statistic either. It's a big deal when you have to get one here. |
