I'm a huge Lynch fan, but I think this movie sucks balls.
If you're talking about Tarkovsky's flick from 1972, you're absolutely right.
If you're talking about the one with George Clooney, you're dead wrong and a noob.
Speaking of Tarkovsky, Stalker is also an absolutely brilliant work. |
I was, and have been meaning to see stalker.
Also the one with clooney is still loads better than a lot of the movies listed in this thread. |

| I got the newer version of Dune for Christmas...the one with William Hurt. It's WAY better than David Lynch's ty version. |

+1
I wouldn't say cheesy. It just wasn't a great movie for me. |

That's most likely because David Lynch has only made one thing I would even begin to entertain the notion of possibly being considered "good" (Mulholland Drive), and even that's a stretch. |

Meh. Harrison's version is much more like I pictured things when I read the book. Lynch's version was ing gay. The shields? Did you see the shields?? Lame. Really lame. Tres lame.
BTW, no apostrophe when pluralizing, n00b. |

| I can't believe that no one has mentioned Fritz Lang's Metropolis yet. |

Meh. It's a nice conversation piece and certainly inspired loads of subsequent films, but it's hardly worthy of being considered the "best" at anything other than being influential.
Acknowledging somethings influence and gaging its overall quality are two entirely different things.
"Metropolis" is one of those movies I only see people who are trying very, very hard to sound smart/educated cite as one of the "best ever." |

First movie that comes to my mind when I hear 'SF'. :)
Edit: Now that I've read through whole thread... There are simply too many good titles to name them all. :) |
