California's assult weapons law is an absolute masterpiece of stupid and useless legislation created by politicians who want to look like they are doing something to reduce crime rather than actually doing something that will reduce crime.
Not to mention that all laws banning firearms of any kind are flawed and doomed to be a failure because by definition criminals do not obey laws. You have to be an idiot of the worst kind to think that someone who steals, robs, rapes, kills, etc is going to obey a law banning the possession of firearms. Gun laws do one thing and one thing only and that is take weapons out of the hands of people who obey laws when those are exactly the people who should have them. |

What possible reason is there for a civilian to own an assault rifle?
Bear in mind that I'm a former soldier, so I have a deep love and appreciation for weaponry.
Laws or not, having a gun shop full of assault weapons that any jackass with a photo id and three days to wait can purchase is insanity.
The same logic you use about gun laws is a contentious issue in Toronto right now, given the public outcry for a ban on handguns. I agree that they are not going to stop the criminals from carrying them, but make it harder to get them. If I can rob your house and walk away with an arsenal - that's a problem. |

Give me a valid reason for why I shouldn't be able to own one? If I just wanted to kill a bunch of people I could do far more damage with my car on city streets crowded with pedestrians. Here in the US we don't just give up rights for no good reason. |

You're asking me to justify why I don't think the general public should be allowed to own military-grade weapons? Is that a serious question?
Assault weapons are impractical for target shooting and hunting...so what use is it to you? It looks cool? It makes you feel like a big man? Personal protection?
By all means, keep a pistol (like a nice SIG P226/229)locked up in your house for protection if you sleep better. By all means keep a rifle for hunting or sport shooting, but it's okay for everyone on the block to sit home watching America's Most Wanted while polishing thier AUG or Galil?
Honestly, who needs a Browning .50 cal machine gun in thier home?
I said 'needs', not 'wants'.
You guys seem perfectly willing to comprimise in human rights, so why not give up the Mill St. Militia? |
