I understand there are limitations to where you can have a show like this in Dallas, but it is an absolute atrocity how selfish either full access or the lizard lounge is by letting so many people in. It just goes to show that all they care about is making money, and they could care less about providing true fans with a good experience. People like that obviously have no business sense or the ability to run a business the right way, and thats why they are booking and running small shows in Dallas, and will never amount to anything.

As for the show, I almost fell asleep in the middle of the dance floor when Mike was playing. It just seemed horribly inappropriate to have someone play that slow for a crowd that was that anxious and hyped up. That kind of music has it's place, and I'm sure Mike plays some good sets and has a following, but every person I talked to was very bored and counting the minutes till pvd's set.

PvD absolutely murdered it as always. That guy never ceases to amaze me. Upstairs was really crowded and you couldn't see anything, but we actually found a little space downstairs after the first hour where we could see and enjoy the show. Playing 3 or 4 encores was really cool of Paul. He definitely remains number 1 in my book.

Well first off, I doubt Armin or PvD is insulted to step foot in the LL. I chatted with some big time DJs before that love playing at LL. The place is well known around the world with big name DJs as a legend and a historical place that everyone wants to have a chance to play at. I remember Retrobyte telling me, "There are some venues you just want to say 'yeah, i played there before' and the Lizard Lounge is one of them" So I highly doubt they are insulted to go there.

Oh, and I heard PvD was having a blast playing that night. He loved it here. He kept turning to his manager and telling him he didn't want to stop playing.

(Though I do agree with your views of overselling.)

And as far as Mike, I expect some people to say that. But to be honest, he's a supporting cast of a bigger show. And Johnny should have played it that way as well, but he played it like he was the headliner. He's a bad ass guy, and a great personality. BUT Johnny had the place going wild and crazy way too early in the night. He had the hype all built up and there was still a long time to go till PvD's set. You HAVE to chill out the crowd so that you can build it up again for the big guy. That was his job, and he did it well. You don't want the crowd worn out before PvD comes on. You want them built up and ready for him.

about the lizard lounge, sometimes it just makes me realize how bad dallas edm sucks, compared to other cities. i try not to complain though, it could be worse.

as far as "full access", of course its about making money. pvd is way too big to have inside that place. also, they have known for months that he was coming (should have been somewhere else or outside.)

glad mike played what he likes. i talked to him the other night and i asked him what he was going to do opening for this big "trance dj", he said "im not sure yet".

imo... i think the "ll" is a ty venue, but they are all we have as desperate ravers needing a fix of some "edm"! lol!

well JWord said he couldn't hold it outside because it was on a Friday. For some reason there was a rule that he could only hold outdoor events on Saturdays. Maybe because they sometimes shut down that back road behind it, Im not sure. But it's a rule.
And he could only get PvD on Friday, so there you have it. As far as venues, I have no idea why he didn't have a different venue in mind.

Yeah, talked with Mike a couple of days before and he seemed nervous. LOL I just kept telling him how excited I was for him. He seemed pretty psyched.

If Dallas showed up in masses for every event like they did for PvD, we wouldn't have this problem, we'd have a ton more of venues to host events at other than the Lizard Lounge....instead we have one.

PvD was great, overpacked as usual!

This is why I choose not to go. Outside would have been ok but
WHAT I DONT GET IS ....

Why does Dallas book PAUL at small venues.
Last year they did it RIGHT with Tiesto so HELLO

Why not PAUL, ARMIN

Some promoters are chicken to do it right.

Simple math.

promoter gets the venue
He sells tickets to pay for DJ
Venue makes money on Drink sales
Lighting/Sound get free promotions..big deal and a cut of the bar.

This works everywhere else Outside of Dallas. I know Ive been behind the scenes. Its not rocket science.

Well at least my vip $ went to Paul even if I wasnt there.

Lighting and sound don't just work off promotions on a bar. It can take up to $25K to rent a proper stage setup for an outside show.

They very well could have tried to place him in Cirque or Palladium. Cirque is a no go to EDM on Fridays, Palladium probably was already booked. This isn't a product of the promoter being chicken, it's a product of Dallas not supporting all events and venues not being willing to consider them anymore.

i like that it stays open till four. thats a big plus for me. still too small for pvd. does anyone have an idea of what that makes per gig?(pvd)
Progress Ent.
Probably $25K or so on a Friday night in Dallas.

Lighting for outside is bigger yes but this gig was inside.
house lights. Rented sound if they did it right but I doubt it.
Pauls bass lines can cause the human chest to compress.

Im not beating up promoters but if your going to book the top 3 djs
Have some respect.

'running a business the right way' means making money. often, that means good customer service, since happy customers return. sometimes, it doesn't, 'cuz you get paid regardless, and pleasing people just costs you time & money. such is the case here. you're all going to pay $40+ to go to these things, whether you like it or not, and buy drinks. your angst doesn't cost them anything.
