In part 3 of our interview series leading up to Summer Madness at Love, we catch up with Vandit/Discover/Conspiracy recording artist Tom Colontonio. Check out what he's got to say!
Thanks for taking the time to sit down with us Tom. You've really come into your own lately with the success of your recent productions, especially with the Vandit release doing so well. What did it take for you to go from everyday bedroom producer to having tracks featured on ASOT, Radio 1, Trance Around the World, and the like?
Well my focus was on making good tunes. After producing for a few years I started to shop my tunes around to labels. After many rejection I started getting some positive feedback and signing to some quality labels. The best advice I could give would be to work your sound a much as possible. If you make some god tunes you can usually get the support from the top guys on Radio etc.
We know you've always got a new release or two coming down the pike. What can we expect to hear from you for the rest of 2008?
Well, I just signed 4 tracks to Discover, another 2 song ep to Conspiracy and another track to Vandit. I also have a few remixes in the pipeline and i'm working on my first original vocal track so I have a good feeling about 2008!
You must get some pretty "unique" requests from people out there for you to remix or help out with their tracks. How do you suggest that the aspiring producers out there should (or should not) submit their work to their favorite artists/labels?
Well you have to be careful of what you do and strive to output quality tracks/remixes. I've def become more picky about what I'm doing on the remix front.
You have a pretty massive schedule over the next few months, particularly the Sunrise Festival where you'll be sharing the decks with Tiesto. Of all the places you've played, what city/country was the most fun?
Well I'm very excited to play sunrise in Poland in July...the event looks massive! That's a tough question though.... I really enjoyed Scotland and London but my NYC gigs are always special too!
So Tom, can you think of the first song that you heard that really made you say "God…I love trance"?
The Generator - "Where are you now?" (Moonman remix). I had listened to some trance before hearing it, but I truly loved this track and still do today.
Any surprises planned for us at Summer Madness?
I plan to drop alot of my new material and do a headstand in the dj booth while spinning!!! lolololollo

Mike DiRocco is going to be at a wedding all day on Saturday, so Mike Saint Jules and DJ Blueshift will be filling in for him in the cave with a 2 hour tag team set from 7PM - 9PM. Mike is fresh off some big releases the past few months, including a banger of a remix out Noel Sanger's Dissident label, meanwhile Blueshift has been tearing it up down in Philly.
