Lots of them. Where are you at/from?

Who gives a flying which hand you use, how hard you shake and where the you're looking? It's an arbitrary gesture. I tend to offer my left hand because I'm left handed, and I've never been told that it's wrong. If you judge someone or get offended by a handshake you're stuck-up, as far as I'm concerned.

It really doesn't matter which hand to most of the world, but in general, is naturally going to be the right hand.

Ahh yeah. We have a bunch of similarities in culture, and quite possibly foods also.

Well yeah, some of them we'd like to shake off, some of them are cool :)

I have had confusion with a right-handed person when we've offered different hands, but it didn't mean anything. It's just the majority trying to enforce itself on the minority and disguising itself with crap about "convention".

haha seeing that I am unfamiliar with your customs and culture, I couldn't really comment on that. :p

Your reasoning is very short-sighted. The reason that we offer our right hand, is because the majority is right handed, and you then assume the other person is too. How does that translate into oppression or forcible compliance?

So you are supporting the right hand shake custom because it's proper in certain areas of the country even though are irrelevant in other parts? Or because it signifies a gesture that has long since dissipated since the time where one would be "holding a weapon"? If the latter is true, then to me it's like you're saying, "I listen to songs that are only between 3 and 4 minutes in length, because when the first records came out they were spinning at 78 RPM and therefore couldn't fit more than 4 minutes on one side." Maintaining a custom isn't necessary if it was historically important for survival but no longer is today.

you really are ignorant aren't you?

i was telling you why we shake hands with our right, and it hasn't long since dissipated since we still use it today

even beat blog reiterated what i wrote

it's a gesture and sign of respect for your fellow human being

the argument about the 78rpm... i'm not even going to touch that one, that's just a poor example

I know that. The oppression comes in with this bull idea of it being "convention" to shake with your right and it being "bad manners" not to. In the Victorian times kids weren't allowed to write with their left hand in school because it was allegedly the Devil's hand. It's the same thing here- dressing up something arbitrary as though it means something in order to enforce compliance.
