also, clovish, i'm not trying to say he's hot or the best thing since sliced bread, i'm just saying that everyone that has been in that office has ed up, one way or another. and who ever is in their for the next election is going to up as well. obviously, giving up golf doesn't really solve any problems, but don't you think he would get even more bad press/PR/etc... if he was shown live on TV waving his hand during the 9th hole with that normal stupid look on his face? (all the while, troops are being shipped overseas)?

I don't really know how to respond to this without getting angry. Not to say I dislike you Will, because I think you're a great guy, but these are not simple gaffes or "ups". They are amazingly flawed positions and policy views, outright lies, and largely completely illogical and incongruent with reality. The fact that you fail to see the difference between "ups" committed by almost every president in history and such grave judgment errors and outrageous statements is troubling.

I'm not one to jump on the bush bandwagon just cause it's in vogue like most people have/are doing. When I lived in France I actually was pushing in the other direction. But over the past 7 years I have really come to understand a little bit of how this guy works, and it scares the out of me.

I don't think he's an idiot at all. I think he's adept at putting on an act, at playing the part, and at lying so consistently that its hard to tell when he is and when he isn't. I doubt he even thinks he is lying, much like Dana Perino thinks she's always telling the truth by staying true to whatever the whitehouse message is. The list of "gaffes" here is ASTRONOMICAL. It defies belief. You think it's not possible for anyone to be any more misleading and then they go and top themselves. You look at what the man says and then you look at what is happening/has happened in REALITY and the disconnect is ing AMAZING.

no, of course it doesn't. but it has an effect on the human persona, doesn't it?

to me, if i was some kid's parent, and i saw him giving this speech, i'd think, "man, what an idiot" and move on.

if i saw him in the scenario i described above, i'd be a little more pissed off, i think.

I couldn't disagree more. I don't care if he gives anything up, as if my son/daughter/friend is over there, I want them home! This war was pointless, and unnecessary for the most part. Him making real sacrifices and getting our troops home would be a much better way to spend his time than to give up golf and go horseback riding on his ranch or bowling in the white house.

Are you still banging on with this pointless drivel? Care to make an actual contribution, or do you just love the useless pedantry?

i'm kind of glad to hear that.

international perspectives are always nice to hear.

but PR is PR, and i still stick by that i would rather see him making redonkulous statements about his hobbies and stuff, than some statement about "all is right in the world"...which he has said enough before.

meh

He shouldn't be doing either though. Don't make a statement if you have nothing to say (this is in reference to bush and the way he does this ). He just loves to hear himself talk and never really has much that is coherent to say. His speeches are written for him for s sake, and he still makes up words, talks out his ass, and continues to run this country into the ground.

As Clovis wasn't a bandwagon guy, I am neither. I really hesitated to even start hating on bush until quite recently. I would say personally, the past 2-3 years for myself have been where my view has changed. I tried to see the good in things, but it just keeps getting worse and worse every time he speaks.

I can't say I feel any pangs of genuine disbelief due to reading those. Maybe 7 years ago, but this sort of is old hat by now.

I really doubt much he says would garner any sort of reaction from me anymore.
