Everyone knows Iceweasel (Firefox) loves the cock.
I think Opera is the best Linux web browser, without a doubt. If you absolutely MUST use a GTK app, use SwiftFox.

Page rendering and standards compliance are the main two for me. It also has some very good functions for developers. From memory, on Linux, flash performance seemed significantly better to me too.

Ubuntu + Firefox = great. You can get caught up on using resources, and which browser is better for this and that, but on Ubuntu I am not too worried about security and it gets the job done. So I won't complain. In the end I am saving on resources by using Ubuntu over Windows on my laptop anyways.
And on my desktop where I still am using XP MCE . . . I still use IE7. I avoid installing more programs in Windows if I can avoid it because of the registry. The less I with it the less likely it will come back to haunt me. Sure, Firefox may not the registry, but I am looking at the same internets all of you are and it loads just fine for me. |

I have bad memory issues with Firefox, but then again I've got a ton of add-ons running.
Besides the memory trouble, it's top class. Some add-ons are brilliant, like Firebug, incredibly helpful when developing stuff for the web. |

I use either Opera 9.5a or Safari 3.1 primarily.
What I like on Opera is :
+ The integrated Synchronizing tool so I can synchronize my bookmarks at home/work.
+ It's fast. A lot faster than FF.
But,
- The flash support is crap.
- Netvibes makes it crash. (Actually, I don't care anymore since I changed my RSS reader)
- Still crashing randomly (but I use an alpha release)
Safari :
+ Very stable/ No memory issue (at least on a mac :p )
+ 3.1 is VERY fast.
+ Almost no launch delay
- Bookmarking sucks.
- .mac isn't free so you have to pay for synchronizing. |

opera is qt, so i don't think its really worth loading all those extra libs just for a web browser. if you want to stay with ubuntu, try swiftfox. otherwise, switch to a distro that uses kde and use opera.
to be honest, now that kde 4 is well and truly out of the bag, i would at least give kde a TRY. i've only demoed it for a few minutes, but i think it is the best desktop to date - and this is commming from someone who's been gtk loyal for years! :p |

| I have Opera and Firefox...tried to use Opera but came right back to Firefox, after being annoyed with the layout. Its not bad, but I prefer Firefox and as mentioned already, theres many great add-ons that really put it on top. |

One of my roomates installed PCLinuxOS. I just didn't like the vibe that distro had. I went to their website and it sounded like one guy in his mom's basement was developing the distro. I'm also biased against KDE I suppose, I started out with Gnome so I prefer it. |

I have always preferred KDE over GNOME, but I said to a buddy when I ran a kde4 kubuntu livecd, that I personally think that KDE4 is the window manager that will get linux the more mainstream adoption. It is very intuitive, lots of eye candy, and runs quite well even with a ty video card. Was very impressed.
And yeah Kubuntu isn't exactly great. I had a lot of problems with it. I was looking for another distro, but alas, every time I find one, it doesn't fit my parameters. I don't want optimizations from 1995. I want a source based distro because of this. For the longest time everyone used i386 packages, and now they are all either making the switch or already have, to i686 from the original p3 days. The select few people who have those, are more than likely not using linux, and if they are, they aren't n00bs. |

qt has bad licencing in comparison to gtk. i think this is the main reason why kde isn't as popular as it could have been. also, kde has always been very resource heavy and rather "unresponsive". it's only now that a major revamp has been done that i would consider using it.
kubuntu is a pretty haphazard distro in my oppinion and i think most people could do better doing their own custom install from a ubuntu minimal cd. gehzumteufel, you might like arch. it's not the most user friendly distro, but it probably does the best kde.
source based distros are more of a head than they're worth. i ran gentoo for a bit and fell into the trap of fixing it more than i used it! |

I have been told that too, but I ran gentoo once (a friend built the OS and everything for me) and it ran PERFECT. Rarely had any problems. Had a wonderful experience. KDE ran super smooth, and it was ing awesome.
And yeah, Kubuntu is a haphazard distro. I tried to remove 1 thing, and it removed pretty much everything I needed. I had to reinstall it just to get it back. Pissed me right the off.
Also, kde really wasn't THAT resource intensive, but I don't disagree, it didn't have the footprint of GNOME. Although 4 ran really well for not having a distro really integrate it very well.
I was unaware of the licensing issues. TrollTech has ported QT to windows and also has a mobile version now. |
