time to move but where??

I have a budget of 2k a month and want to live in mahattan but there are other options but I started my search here first. I been looking for a one bedroom but there are all(walk up 4th, no ameneties, and looks not so good. ty kitchens and small bedroom.

I found a very updated alcove studio for 2k/month in the upper east side(doorman, elevator, laundry, and next to carl schurz park)
very nice area(freakin broker d00d is all over me but I said it is too ealry. Is there really that much competition out there this second??

Also will 2k in manhattan get me a crap 1 bedroom but a nice studio??

My next choice is Astoria and see if I can get more for my money there? any other suggestions would be helpful.

$2K in Manhattan will get you a crap studio in most areas (maybe a really small 1 BR with the conditions that you mentioned). Upper East is probably the cheapest area below 86th and above the financial district.

Oh, and this is a prime time to move in because all of you kids just graduated.

I'd give Long Island City a shot. Very close to the city (10 minutes by train) and plenty of luxury apartment buildings.

I live in a brand new luxury building with the gf and pay the same as your budget.

Plenty of amenities and well worth the money.

Personally, I never understood people who pay an arm and a leg for a tiny Manhattan apartment that's really not that appealing. I guess that's what you sacrifice to say you "live in the city".

I lived in a really nice 1 bedroom w/ office (which we turned into a second bedroom). It was a walkup w/ no amenities but...the main bedroom was huge, there was a small kitchen and decent size bathroom for $1735/mo on 79th and york. When i was apt hunting I also went to a really nice building even further uptown that had all the amenities, pool, gym, doorman etc. and that was around $2000/mo so you can def find stuff depending on where you want to live.

Astoria. 2 grand can get you a sick pad.

the broker guy called this morning and said the alcove studio was taken. I lowered it to 2000 from 2200 but I bet they found a taker for 2200 and that was it. I don't blame him but its a learning lesson about competition out there.

A few more in Manhattan then off to LIC/astoria

2 grand/month in Manhattan would get me a studio

yeah astoria is #2 on the list

apartment hunting reminds of of when I bought my first new car. I looked at BMW 3 series first and ended up with a honda civic

Astoria is great if you work in Midtown. I'm looking in Park Slope, it's right over the bridge, and my husband and I both work below 14th. There are a lot of neighbourhoods in BK that have a lot going on, prob more than Manhattan.

why not find some roomates through craigslist? If you apply even 1.5K/month, but with roomates, you can get a much better deal - even in manhattan.

yea dude thats what i was gonna say.. find a roommate 2k for a 2br is very nice. my friend found something on 14th bet 5th and 6th very nice apartment with a big living room all is brand new and decent sized room. i think its 10x12 with a closet. besides living your younger years in the city with a roommate is much more fun that by yourself.
