Rip Groups RANT!

hi....i feel like i need to speak about this.....and i want to hear ppl's opinions on this issue. Rip groups do provide a great service...but i'm not saying that is wrong. What is wrong, is that rip groups have gotten to the pt where they believe they can control their releases like a record company. Rip groups have deejays or ppl who get promos from the record companies promo lists, then they rip it to mp3 and 192kb and then put their name at the end of the mp3 file and all in the mp3 file tags. But then they have release dates for mp3's, my gosh....they don't own the songs but they sure act like they do, they act like they ARE THE RECORD COMPANY. Then if someone posts a mp3 file somewhere and they don't have permission from the mp3 group, the group goes to threads and telling ppl not to post their releases. I mean wtf, they act like they are the record companies and i think that is really wrong. Should'nt rip groups just release stuff and share it to the trance community as a whole or what. If you ppl believe what i'm saying is wrong, then say so and state why, if you agree with me, say so and state why.....i point out....this IS ONLY MY OPINION.

hmmm... interesting point. im not too familiar with rip groups myself (ITWT one??). if they have music to share for free share it. thats what music is all about i the first place, fun, sharing, bringing people together. attitudes like that dont do any good.

hmm...

my opinion is that it's nice to have MP3s from rip groups, but by no means should they be claiming to have any rights to them, or try to think they are exclusive distrubitors. I always take the tags and out right away, let em come after me.

music should be spread around for all to enjoy, and the only people making a profit from it should be the original musician.

on the other hand, maybe they shouldn't release them at all? especially full albums.

the producer "airwave" recently found out that his entire album is available for download, before it is even released.

he is considering not even releasing the album now.
maybe we are killing the scene? if people can't make a profit, then no new music will come out.

i think that live sets should definitely be allowed, as they are for enjoyment.
torontotrance
you are certainly right....it almost comes down to who owns what now but ppl seem to not care, i feel sorry for airwave...not much can be done....sooner or later an artist will quit music or production because of this.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there mate :)

The thing is, they must have contacts to get hold of the stuff, either knowing the producers or the djs who get them sent to them.

But trance is still on the whole underground, and i dont think many djs mind their stuff being released to the real trance fans. As most trance producers dont make a hell of a lot out of producing, they do it because they love trance.

But the ripping groups are getting way above themselves. They are exclusive groups, with rules to enterance, and this is wrong. If someone gets a new vinyl and rips is great, and they should do it for the love of trance, and to pass it around other trance fans. Not get above themselves and start trying to control things.

But this is the major problem with people, give them control and they grow egos. Unfortunatly they r growing faster than i would like. Soon they will just have little groups, and they will control things.

I am glad we have people who share music, so other trance fans who arent as lucky can get all the latest stuff.

But anyway i would love to see people just ruipping and sharing for the love of trance, and not to gain power.

Although i do agree that rippers should get credit for the time spent ripping. But i dont like power hungry people. And these people seem to think they r better than us.

We are equal. Why should they be any different.

none the less TTA you made a good point. i haven't came across this sort of scenerio yet though, but its pretty outrageous that they will hold the tune and set a certain release date. yes, i do thank the release groups from contributing to the scene. so we may all listen to the beauty of the tune before it hits the stores at least that way i will head over to the record store for the vinyl release.

although if they start getting really serious with this release thing i will just start my own ripping group ;)

it's all really confusing...

I think it's because they want their groups to have lots of unaccessed trance, therefore making more good rippers with access join.

if it's on a forum, then it's not exclusive.

still, if it's out its out on just a forum...it's not like it's put on the top of Yahoo.com

i hav 2 agree with u tta, there r so many s in there, although there are plenty of cool ppl in there, of which some i do know, although s are a plenty and that a lot of them believe they r bigger than the business.
AnotherWay83
yeah i agree totally, sometimes they act like they own the original song or sumthing...or as if they made the track in the first place heheh...

but im still thankful for all the great rips :D
DJ-Energy
well.. i have to disagree with u all
first of all, they rip the stuff for the community of the rip groups... means that the guy that is working so hard to give us that gr8 quality promo vinyl rip is mainly doing it to get credits from other site/rip groups.. that kind of the deal, all rip groups share the wealth with either.. and in each group somehow pops this freakin leecher who keeps taking stuff without permission and just puts it out for everyone
im not saying its wrong, im saying that its just really NOT FAIR for the guy that worked so hard to rip the vinyl, then for example comes someone on TA and posts it and takes the credit 4 it.. that is really not fair..

the rip groups do not SET THE DATE for the release, what they do is set the date for THE RELEASE... which i think is ok...

i know that the trance community is all about sharing, but sometimes u gotta see some elses point of view, and understand how hard the work is... its not fair to leech all day.. and even if u do, u need to give something back in return.. so that even if u do leech they will see that u appricate the kinda work they do..

so... thats my point of view on this subject..
:disbelief :)

torontotrance
yes but then......it's still not their's.....it belongs to the individual artist or producer.......but i do see your point....i do give back.....i give my rips of livesets to friends to release as they wish.

um... did anyone else notice that those are the same thing, but with different letters capitalized?

anyway.. i don't think the ripping groups deserve anything but a kind thank you for their time. they don't deserve prestige, or special rights or anything like that.

and if people spread their around before the official release date, so be it, the trance gets in the hands of people in faster.

they should be applauding those people for helping with the distribution, if what they care about is really getting trance out to people.
