| my sympathies will. I know exactly what it's like, benny had a brain tumour & wasn't even five, and I just couldn't put him through the pain & hell so decided it was better to put him to sleep. I hate myself every day for the choice I made and miss him more than anything, as theresa said, you get attached, and it isn't easy at all. It changes who you are for a while, the thinking etc, and personally it caused me to snap at friends & lose them because of it, but things do get better. Not for a while, it was four months after losing ben and I was still in mourning, when a breeder friend told us about Poppy. I didn't know what to feel, and then when I saw the picture of her, I knew I had to have her, and as much of a pain as she is (bloody woman!) i still adore her. Sure, I wish ben was here, but I know he's thankful I didn't put him through pain & suffering any longer than necessary. Keep your memories, even his favourite toy and whatever it needs to help you grieve, it will ease, but it won't be quick. |

| Rough deal she wasn't that old a doggie and I thought she'd be alright after the last visit to the vets. :( |

Sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a pet can be very devistating. Like someone else said, just remember all the good times you had with each other.
The hardest part is deciding when to get another pet. You don't want to replace your pet that just passed away, but being alone can really eat you up...tough decisions. |

i've always had dogs around me my whole life. growing up, when one died, we would go back to the no-kill shelters and get a new one within like 2 months.
i had only lived in my house here in shreveport for a month before i was going insane and googline shelters here in shreveport for a dog.
sucky thing is , as well, is that i was giving her foster care....like the real owner was deployed overseas to Iraq somewhere...but his deployments kept getting extended or something (the lady who i got Codie from never really gave me a whole lot of details about it)...and so i felt soooooo bad having to make this decision; but she had said that Codie was really basically my dog...in fact, her son had emailed her about a month ago asking if Codie was even still alive. i only had her for a year and a half, but i got soooooo attached to her.
my bed was so empty last night....no big furry fuzzball lying next to me. and i know its going to be hard coming home and walking in the living room and not seeing her lying on the couch :( |

Dude, you did the right thing putting her to sleep. The kindest thing you could have done. Don't beat yourself up over it. My rabbit was 14 when I he died about 5 years ago, and I was distraught, then my hamster died this year. It's hard because you become so attached to them. It's really sad what's happened to you, but you did the right thing. |
