It's a common mistake to believe that areas like NYC are totally unlike the rest of the country. Of course they're different but not to the extent that many people suppose. I have seen some staunchly conservative family-oriented people in NYC. BTW, did you read the post by chimera66, in which she wrote how her 25-yr-old sister in Manhattan was getting married?

Also: in Germany, the average age for males is 32, females 29.

That's 5 years later than in the US, and they don't even have many of the socioeconomic hurdles that we do in the US, for instance they have free healthcare.

yeah, and this is 2008, not 1958. But the more things change, the more they stay the same.

So, although Americans get married a bit later than they used to, the surprising part here is that the ages mentioned are nothing like 30 or later (which is what many people, including my friends, seem to mistakenly believe).

Well if the avg male age of marriage is 27, then that means half are over 27, and I'm sure most of those half are going to be 30+. So your friends aren't really mistaken. They probably just hang out with the crowd that gets too busy to marry early.

A lil surprising. I figured it would have been 29 for guys, and 27 for women. Most of my friends and I are in the 26-28 group and all single. :clown:

The divorce rate is pretty sad though :(

yeah except you'd think there'd be more 34-yr-old men getting married than 20-year-old ones. But that's not the case.

I have a good friend getting married next week. In fact, I have to go up to Chicago for the wedding. He's 25. Normally I'd say that's too young, he isn't an ordinary individual so I'm certain it will work out well.

Not really. Here, let's take 6 numbers:

25
25
25
25
25
37

Even though the average is 27, only one of these numbers is higher than the average.

Im going to go out on a limb and guess that the distribution of the study at hand is normal.

Also, the number of "never married" women is rising, and that statistic doesnt take that into account.

oh yea speaking of weddings...i was browsing channels on tv last weekend and came across some reality show about weddings. got sucked into it of course for a bit but it was actually really funny.

i guess the new thing to do for breaking traditions is to switch up the first dance. the married couples start off slow dancing, like usual...and then the DJ cuts the gay music and starts another song... like a faster dance one and then they all busted out dancing in unison, bridal party and everything. it was so funny. i would totally do that if i had a big wedding.
