I just read an interesting fact. Apparently, in our current times, the average modern American man gets married when he is 27 years old, and the average modern American woman at 25.

Here's the article where this is mentioned:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24969907/

quote:

The average man walks down the aisle when he's 27.1-years-old; a quarter century ago, he would've been 23.2-years-old. (For women, it's 25.8 and 20.8, respectively.)

So, although Americans get married a bit later than they used to, the surprising part here is that the ages mentioned are nothing like 30 or later (which is what many people, including my friends, seem to mistakenly believe). I was under the impression that people in the West rarely married before 30; this is also what the media often portrays. Not the case in America.

and only 49% of marriages last, lol. When the whole marriage thing was developed, people were dead at around age 35, so it used to work. people should marry for economic reasons only these days. Love/lust doesn't seem to last anymore.

You hear that Jamie?

marriage was originally designed for property sharing and tax purposes

you have to get married young so you can get your starter marriage out of the way in time to find your second wife before you get too old

thats my view! Why ruin a perfectly good relationship by bringing the law into it??

It's especially funny given the "Sex and the City" that just came out and the culture of singledom that it, and many other shows/papers/etc., seem to constantly disect and discuss.

It's understandable that many people would be misled into thinking that the numbers would be somewhere around 30 (at least for males), but that's false!

my little sister is 25 and getting married next week and i'll be a bridesmaid. being 27 that might mean i fail  ALTHOUGH i have a bunch of friends not even close to getting married in my age group.

That stereotype is applicable to some urban areas (NYC for example) since people here are more career oriented. This report really doesn't surprise me.

thank u. i was going to mention the high divorce rate.

i think 25 is way too young to be getting married, but that's just me.

i personally do not see myself getting married until after 30. MAYBE kids by 35...but i really don't have a set plan or deadline like most psychobitches these days lol
