Favourite track element?

What's your favourite musical element? Which instruments/sounds do you really like?

People who've never produced or DJed may not understand this, but I often find myself "aurally focussing" on certain track elements for long stretches, entranced by them and essentially ignoring the other parts of the song playing.

My favourite track element is generally hi-hats - nice raspy, repetitive ones, such as those in Joris Voorn - Incident or Domestic - Limited Addiction .

I often feel that tracks without strong hat sections lack a lot of drive and can end up sounding lifeless without them, though obviously every track is unique and not all songs need them...

I have to agree with you there. I also love pads in a track, preferably choir pads...i dunno why but they just make the track more lively

Basslines and percussion do it for me.... then com3 the supersaw sythnzorzz!!11

Synths that oscillate (have filters / FM / pitch / volume / etc. changing in a regular pattern). :)

Also, some tracks have percussion elements that "work" together so well that I start to hear all the percussion as one "piece," and when listening I'll become fixated on that.

I particularly am suckered into a track when the kick is solid and dances with a deep bassline. One trend I have been noticing that I like at the moment are white noise hits... seem to be very popular right now and may get old quick if people keep on using but we'll see.

clave

syncopated gated saw pad
syncopated light exotic percussion
