it really depends the district and on the law and officer. sometimes they pull you over and you get a warning (verbal + written - written is just like you were caught doing x in y and z will happen, be careful next time you are off with a warning ect) other times it's a fine. if there is no money amount on the ticket, consider yourself very lucky. it normally will say the fine amount, offense committed, a bunch of id info and some other .
now if its a warning, your gold. no points.
fine = points and that is dependent on how much you were over. insurance goes up as it is a moving violation.
a co-worker of mine who has like 8 tickets against him all for speeding gives me the advice "fight the ticket, ALWAYS" now i can't really speak here as ive never been this far so good luck.
this is all CDN law though and I just noticed you are in the US. |

I've been driving for 10 years and i've never had an accident and only got one speeding ticket when i was 19 and it got dismissed because i used a ticket attorney. oh and i've had a couple of parking tickets for expired meters but those don't even count.
i'm an excellent driver for a female. i can drive any car, manual or automatic. in fact, if someone were to throw me the keys to a murcelago or ferarri, i wouldn't even be nervous. i'd hop right in that bitch and drive it like a champ probably. i'm good at feeling cars out and getting used to them instantly. |

All I did was went to court in Hempstead(municipal bldg area) and waited for my turn. The prosecutor lowered it to I think a red light ticket and less points. You can do that or fight it but in the end it cost me about 100 or so.
Get one of those PBA cards or know someone in the Police dept. If so it will help you. I won't say get you out of a ticket but it will help!

you mail it in saying guilty they send you a fine and you get points on your license then take defensive driving to remove the points
you mail it in saying not guilty, get a lawyer, pay the lawyer instead and dont get points.
Either way your insurance is ed
dont get another one, 2 tickets 20mph over the speed limit in the next 2 months = automatic loss of license for 9 months.
its not worth it, I lost mine [[for a few more than 2 tickets haha]] when I was 19 until I'm 21, thank god I don't need to drive in Toronto, but when Im home in NY it sucks balls. 1 more year.. ugh |

| it took me four tickets to realize that i should get a radar detector. one time in traffic safety school they had us watch a video about animals in the road. they had like squirrels, rabbits, dogs, deer, and then a cow :wtf: |

First time i got pulled over i was going 100mph in a 100kph zone.
Luckly it was in El Salvador and i had a diplomatic license... got off with a "slow down"

Ya it came in handy many times.. one time i was parked in the car making out with this chica and the police came, i showed it to them and they ed off.
:D
My dad worked WITH the U.S. embassy alot (Not for) and where he works works hand in hand with goverments so they just gave it to us. |

I've gotten two tickets in Nassau County. One for 83 in a 45 and another for 78 in a 55. On the Seaford-Oyster Bay. This was 5 years ago.
I think if you turn the ticket over you have the option to go to court, with a date on it, I think. Go to court! AFAIK, Nassau is so backed up with court dates. Also you can get it lowered to tailgating or something else, so it is less points on your license. For the first ticket I got a paper in the mail from the police department and it said I was doing 83 in a 55. So I brought that paper in with me (2 years later, b/c Nassau is so backed up) and the wrong code was on it so it didn't match the ticket or something. It was dismissed and the judge was not nice at all, b/c I saw the difference. Still I didn't have to pay anything and no points.
For the next ticket, when I got the letter in the mail, the wrong colour and car was on it, but it was my previous car. I guess they never changed the info when I changed registration. I think I could have fought it, but the next court date would have probably been in the next two years and I knew I would be out of the country. So, I got it down to tailgating and paid the fine.
Do not just pay the thing, go to court in Nassau. |
