Disturbed in particular, though I'm not much for metal in general.
That whole wave of bands like Disturbed, Godsmack, Drowning Pool, et al. I just found horribly bland.
It was like the 90's anti-version of 80's hair bands, every bit as shallow, just replaced the hair spray with razor blades. |

meh. i was big into the whole hard rock thing before EDM but still, disturbed never did it for me. "down with the sickness" was overhyped and in the end pretty cheesey imo
the whole breakdown "NO MOMMY, I WON'T DO IT AGAIN" blah blah blah.. gay. |

off 80s metal was shallow. you have serious homosexuality issues! indeed, metal was the only decent music to come out of the 80s.

disturbed had great rhythm and didn't get stuck in the wailing guitars era, their stuff was reasonably melodic with a great punching tempo. didnt like their second album tho. |

i get the "punching tempo" thing but in the end they were oversimplistic and just recycled the same musical ideas from bands before them without actually adding anything of their own. kinda in the same category as trapt, shinedown, etc etc. forgettable bands with a couple catchy tunes... meh. |

nah, not really. The 90's anti-version of 80's hair bands was the grunge era.
This era that is marginally still there is what I like to call insipid mallcore. |

Good point, the anti-version would have to be quality music, and clearly the only difference between this garbage and 80's hair rock was the subject matter. It was all still .

in any case, when you commit suicide you definitely need a song awash in power chords and distortion with recycled tepid lyrics like "immortal", "forsaken" and things of that ilk being shout by a cackling bald guy who really wants to "just send a serious message about a sensitive matter".
Y'know, while covered in fake blood.

i dunno. they came along at a time where i was hanging for something new to listen to, never heard of trapt or shinedown. i always struggled to find new music before edm interested me. |
