End of the line for 1015?

I'm primarily a lurker here on TA but a heavy club goer, at least I was till about March.
I personally hate Ruby Skye but have forced myself to go on many occasion due to the line up. However, my ears just can't take it anymore. The sound system never seems to be tuned properly for the type of music they are playing and they crank the music up way to loud. I don't think it is a compliment to the sound engineer when everyone has to wear ear plugs to go clubbing. I can deal with the pushy drunks, but not destroying my ears...
Enough with my negative rant on Ruby Skye, there line up has been stacked week after week +/- a weekend here and there. They are bringing out talent that rarely or never comes to the SF bay area and now it seems like they are booking all the DJs that 1015 use to get. Above & Beyond, Rank1, Blank & Jone, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if PvD made the jump to Ruby Skye...
After Taj took over booking, things got way better at 1015. Now things seem to be sliding and I feel like I have no where to go. I've gone from clubbing every weekend to not seeing a single event I want to drag myself out to. Well I did really want see Sean Tyas, but couldn't muster up the energy after BBQing all day on the 4th. Then I hear that he was spinning upstairs and hip hop was in the main room?!?! WTF!!
Lastly, I have no doubt that EDM can still draw a large enough crowd to pack 1015. I do have doubts about 1015's promotional abilities. Good examples are Above & Beyond and Blank & Jones. At 1015 they always drew a decent crowd but Ruby Skye is jam packed with Spundae promoting them.
Just my opinion anyways, I'm curious if anyone agrees or if everyone thinks I am totally off base on this. |

Blame the management and owner. He has his head stuck up his ass. Thats why there is hip-hop in the main room on random Saturdays. |

| 1015 needs a lot of work though. A lot haha. The bookings are great but the clubs main room just isnt doing it yet. Sound issues often, decor sucks, no vibe. It needs some work. |

thats kind of how Circus in LA is...
no offense to the those that support/love Circus (cuz i love it too).
they need to do remodeling and sound/lighting improvements.
its deja vu |

But Ten15 has done remodelling...except to the most important room in the whole place!
Balconies are not remodelling
The lame waterfall wall...wait, when was the last time I saw any water on it?
The slight chance to the rear of the room.
Patchwork. Not remodellng.
Anyhow, yes....if Taj hasn't done what he's done, Ten15 would be as dead on Sat nights as it is usually is on Friday nights when anything goes on when it's not pvd or oakey player. |

1015 is downright atrocious... the security and owner included... biggest complaint I hear from that place all the time is that, and also the soundsystem and booth. The interior does need some decoration as mentioned before. The area looks like too. 1015 usually closes down around 4/5am on big nights.
If you're EVER going to go party in SF, I DEFINITELY recommend Ruby Skye... theres a reason why it was voted America's Best Club and now I know why... getting in is a breeze!!! Security and doormen there are super friendly, the wait is pretty short, once you go in, the entrance looks very nice and decorated with posters, red carpet, walls. You go into the bathroom (right before you hit the main entrance) and its very clean. Nobody begging you to leave tips and they have a 70 volt system in there that sounds like the music is coming DIRECT from the mixer into the speakers in there. 100% clear and wonderful sound. You enter the main entrance and the architecture is very beautiful... Romanesque style design and a very stylish, HUGE dancefloor... there are 2 bars, on either side of the dancefloor right next to the mainstage so you don't have to lose your spot. Drinks are pretty cheap too... a Sierra Nevada from the tap cost me $6 and there was no line because the bartenders are fast. All along the very front is a POWERFUL AC system that keeps things COLD AS when you're there so you actually HAVE to being in a sweater or you'll get arthritis in your legs from staying there too long. It never gets hot, security comes out and kicks out the clowns within minutes, and the DJ booth is close enough to the front so that you can just about shake hands with the DJs and get autographs. They sometimes have a laser that shoots onto this hanging mesh structure on the top balcony that disperses the laser around the room.
As for sound, its pretty damn good. I talked to one of the guys who ran the sound there and he mentioned they don't even have a front of house!! It was some style of mixing I haven't heard about but you can see the control room(s) on the top right and left sides of the dancefloor.
When you go upstairs, you can get on the balcony that overlooks the dancefloor and theres a bar up there in the middle. You can go out to the lounge there that overlooks Mason street and the windows are open giving fresh air. You can smoke in there and they even have a pool table. Theres a small DJ booth there for the other DJs which is cool and its not loud at all so you can talk to people, smoke, and chill out for a bit. As for the club, I hear it goes on till 7am-11am sometimes for good events. Its much like Avalon over here.
Hands down, the BEST club I've ever been to in the US... only thing that I didn't like was that the AC was constantly on... if it turned on for a couple minutes in 5 minute intervals, that would get rid of the heat and make things so it wasn't too cold at the very front. Also, you can't beat Avalon's sound in LA but yeah, if you're ever going to SF, make sure you go to Ruby Skye!!! |

lol at Ruby being the best club in SF/US. You get a ton of complaints about Ruby's sound being way too loud and rude crowd in just about every Ruby event review. Hell, I had a ringing in my ear come Friday morning after Torq @ Ruby cause it was too damn loud and I use ER-15 ear plugs! I'd personally prefer 1015 over Ruby but in the end it comes down to whos playing where. I'd rather see more headliners at Mighty or even the venue where Lee played last night  :tongue3
edit: 1015 doesnt have the best owner and the previous manager didnt help things :whip:  :( |

wow! you've described the best possible most positively exaggerated scenarios for ruby skye. or, gosh darned it, i must always be missing the nights you describe... is there some secret unadvertised tuesday night party you describe?
yes, a lot of the things you mention are true to an extent. but i can also counter argue every point you've made. long long lines even if you have pre-sales. occasionally unbearably loud and too much bass. yay, a laser twice a year! all the douche-bags standing 4 deep against the bars. cold AC only for the dozen people lucky enough to be standing up front. balcony's being VIP, so absolutely NO place to sit anywhere in the club. no other rooms to go to if the headliner ends up being crap, a pretty regular closing time of 4am.......
i like ruby skye, love it some nights and not so much others. so my points above are just to put some of your comments into perspective.
more often than not, unless there are one or two things that really get in the way of me having a good time, with good friends and a great dj, i can have a good time almost anywhere. |
