I highly doubt it will happen in the UFC given the bad blood between UFC and Couture (not to mention ongoing lawsuits)...but money talks, so who knows.
Fedor already turned down more money (way more) to fight for UFC, apparently because of their ridiculously restrictive contracts. |
You never know what can happen, I read a recent article that where Couture stated that he would prefer the fight to happen in the UFC. The dynamics of the situation have changed, even Dana White has admitted to Fedor being a bona fide HW, whereas before he thought he was overrated and unwilling to go that extra mile to secure a deal. It would be a smart and expensive move on White's part, it would breathe life back into the stale HW UFC division and essentially crush the competition.
As for the initial deal between Fedor the UFC, hard to say what really happened, I think both parties were making some ridiculous demands from what I heard, but like I said before, that was all before Fedor rolled Sylvia in 36sec and is now a legit HW in North American eyes. |

Dana *always* knew Fedor was #1...as does everyone else. I think too many people fail to realize what Dana says and what Dana thinks are two very different things. At one point, I think he even said Fedor isn't top 5 in the world, LOL! This of course begs the question who Dana would rank 1-4, but of course that was never discussed...because it was bull media hype in the first place.
His job is to grow the UFC and make it a profitable business. It's not to hype MMA in general or hype fighters under contract to other orgs. OF COURSE he'd say Fedor is overrated, especially after he couldn't sign him. Given that Fedor *dominated* the current UFC champ (twice) and now dispatched Sylvia, even Dana (the UFC personna, not the real Dana) can no longer publicly invalidate his status as #1.
But you're right, now that Fedor has fought here, he's more marketable to the not-so-educated new MMA fans here who, until now, think "if it's not UFC, it's crap". That may change bargaining positions on both sides though. |

I haven't checked that one much, but am a regular reader of sherdog.com. How do you find the people there?
Sherdog is great for news, rumours, upcoming event info, etc...but OMFG are most people *stupid* in the forums. I'm confident that the average level of education is 'high school dropout', lol. |

| there seems to be a lot of people who know what they're talking about..which i can appreciate...most of the discussions and debates are with merit but of course you always have ur idiots who know nothing about the sport....like those that thought rampage should have won over griffin...but that's another story...:) |

| arghh |
| The production value on the affliction card was embarrassing. Megadeth? UGH. what was with the high camera angel too. Yes they had some big name fighters on the card (most of whom made their names in the ufc). They need better commentators too. Fedor seems to be the real deal, beating Tim is a step up from his latest competition. That said affliction's ppv buys are VERY low and they had a hard time selling tickets. Also all the pride guys who have come over to the UFC have gotten their asses kicked when they enter the UFC. The UFC from production value to quality of fighters is an entirely different beast that NOBODY is even close to getting to right now. Affliction was a step up from Elite but still. I have heard that Elite is really fixing all the production problems they had last time, we will see sat night. |

I think Rampage should have won that fight. |

| Rampage deffinately SHOULD have won. but I think the actual match was a draw. The fact UFC gave the belt away on that fight goes to show they will do anything to push foresst griffin which is why he deserves nothing but boos as a champ |

anyone catch the DREAM 5 card this past weekend too? or has anyone been watching it? It's essentially Pride reborn and they have a lot of top LW and some good MW as well. |
Kawajiri vs Alverez
I had no respect for Kawajiri after Dream.1 because I saw Gill or w/e his face is do more damage but all Kawa did was lay on him.
Dream.3 he delivered didn't finish his opponent but those were some nice knees to the head.
Dream.5 he delivered :D he gots my respect thats for sure.
Hansen is probably the happiest man in the planet because he actually won hahahaha
which was your favorite Dream event?
I got to say Dream.4
Jacare vs Mayhem Miller
Hideo Tokro Darren Uyenoyama:eek:
those two fights were ing outstanding.
Also enjoyed the Gegard Mousasi vs Yoon Dong-Sik
Who you got to win it all?
I say Gegard Mousasi. Hopefully the first round he faces Jacare. |

Some are educated, but then again, some are plain stupid as you said before 'if it's not ufc, it's crap'
Great site though.
On the Forrest Griffin fight...
Forrest wins in my eyes he had the 'octagon control' going on for most of the fight but lets by serious, Rampage did the most damage. Rules are rules I disagree on how UFC runs, I like Japanese judging better because they don't judge it by round but by the whole fight. Ramage deserved to lose the second round by 10-8 by each judge. I think one judge actually gave it a 10-9 and 2 judges gave it a 10-8. |

Hansen was all class, requesting that his 1st defense be against Alvarez. I look forward to that one.
Jacare vs. Mayhem was exciting and Mayhem certainly held his own against a guy with perhaps the best BJJ on the planet. Once Jacare adapts to the MMA game and develops some striking, he's going to be a beast!
Mousasi is my pick to win it all too and is one of my fave fighters. He's been operating under the radar for a while and has a very bright future, given his age. yeah, I *really* hope he and Jacare face each other at some point, because that has 'fight of the year' written all over it.
Dream 3 had some good matches too. Uono's sub on Machida was nice and I will *always* watch either of the Diaz brothers fight. Nick's win over Gomi (while apparently stoned, lol) is one of the greatest wins I've ever seen in MMA, haha.
I really am having trouble liking Aoki. *great* submission game, but watching him jump to guard against JZ and refuse to stand in Dream 2 was just ing brutal. Then he cries with happiness when he won? I'd be crying in embarassment. Whatever works, I guess...a win is a win. I respect his skills, but was thrilled to see Hansen KO him for the belt :D
I'm just happy that Dream exists...Pride lives on! Scary announcer lady, the over-the-top ceremony of it all, and Bas' commentary FTW, lol! He was completely ridiculous during this last show. I'm just not sure it will be "embraced" by the North American audience. Too bad...some *great* fighters are on their cards. |
