Wtf are you talking about. Sure some got their asses kicked (Crocop, Shogun), but are you forgetting Anderson Silva, Nogueira, Rampage all 3 of which are (one was) UFC champions? Lets not forget W. Silva, who lost to Chuck, but he's proven that he's still a likely contender for the belt after rolling Jardine. So plz stfu.

I can support a 3 rounds to 2 win for Forrest...but that was not "taking the belt" from the champ.

How two judges gave Forrest a round when Rampage almost KO'd him...I don't know. It's just another example of how ignorant and uneducated the state athletic commission judges can be when it comes to MMA. WTF fight were they watching?!?

Rampage looked awful...that was not the guy who went 5 rounds with Henderson, KO'd Chuck, slammed Shogun into next week, etc.

There should be an immediate rematch, IMHO.

The production value on the affliction card was embarrassing. Megadeth? UGH. what was with the high camera angel too. Yes they had some big name fighters on the card (most of whom made their names in the ufc). They need better commentators too. Fedor seems to be the real deal, beating Tim is a step up from his latest competition. That said affliction's ppv buys are VERY low and they had a hard time selling tickets. Also all the pride guys who have come over to the UFC have gotten their asses kicked when they enter the UFC. The UFC from production value to quality of fighters is an entirely different beast that NOBODY is even close to getting to right now. Affliction was a step up from Elite but still. I have heard that Elite is really fixing all the production problems they had last time, we will see sat night.

the Megadeath thing was indeed embarassing...and I can't say I'm a fan of the play-by-play spaz, but Trigg and McCarthy were good (I seem to be one of the few who like Trigg).

Fedor has been the real deal for a loooooong time ;)

As mentioned, until Rampage lost to Forrest, three of the 5 belts were held by "Pride guys" (though Henderson fought a couple of times in the UFC early in his career, the vast majority have been for Pride). I trust Shogun will come in better shape to his next fight.

Affliction did rather well at the gate compared to UFC events held in the same location:

quote:
This past Saturday’s “Affliction: Banned” event drew a total attendance of 14,832—a small increase from the night’s announced attendance of 13,988 — for a live gate of $2,085,510.

The numbers, certified by the California State Athletic Commission, were today sent to media members, including MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

The debut event for Affliction Entertainment took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Part of the card aired on FSN before switching to pay per view.

Of the 14,832 total tickets, 11,242 were sold, and 3,590 were complimentary and given away.

Although initially announced as a sold-out event, the CSAC reports that 15,572 tickets were available, and 740 went unsold/unused. The majority of those “deadwood” tickets were from the $200 (352 tickets) and $100 (248)sections.

Among the event’s 3,590 complimentary tickets, most were for the cheapear seating areas, including the $150 (1,079), $100 (822) and $50 (652) sections. Ticket prices ranged from $45 to $1,000.

So how do Affliction’s total attendance (14,832), paid attendance (11,242) and live gate ($2,085,510) figures stack up to the competition?

Here are how three recent UFC events at the Honda Center fared:

UFC 76: 13,770 tickets (11,817 paid) for a $1,985,000 gate
UFC 63: 12,604 tickets (9,343 paid) for a $1,582,370 gate
UFC 59: 13,814 tickets (13,060 paid) for a $2,191,450 gate

Seems like all the guys the Pride fighters who lost in the UFC are quickly regarded as not on par with the rest of the UFC, while those who dominate become UFC poster-boys. Great marketing.

I read that too...it's been confirmed, apparently. Barnett vs. TBA and Fedor's 'little' brother, Aleks, is also on that card.

yeah pretty much, lol.

Anderson Silva is deemed the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, despite not beating anyone who is *that* good...while Fedor, who has a much more impressive resume, is "overrated" according to Dana (in his capacity as UFC mouthpiece).

??:conf: ??

Last time I checked Shogun ed Rampage up so bad that he broke his ribs.

Edit:

Reading a lot of Pride people are getting owned...

Thats what Dana is doing on purpose.

Hendo got pride belt by KOing Wanderlie Silva but I heard he was sick that week and was actually in the hospital.

He went straight to fight the champion Rampage, never expected him to win so wasn't surprise to see him lose.

Then he went to his natural weight class and actually did really good for the first round and showed that Anderson is beatable but then he got owned in the second round. I actually think he can win if they go again.

Shogun had some kind of ed up knee going in the fight and had surgery. Surprise he went to the 3rd round it shoulda been 1st lost but I'm surprise he went to the 3rd.

A lot of these guys go straight to touch competition (chuck vs wanderlie), knew rules and its cage. Personally I think Wanderlie will chuck up if they go again. It was his first UFC fight since like seven or nine years and new rules and his first fight after Pride got bought top of all that he faced one of the UFC's best and didn't got KO.

whoops...my bad! I meant Arona. :o

speaking of...wtf happened to him? it's been well over a year since Sokoudjou KO'd him, I haven't heard a peep about a possible next fight.

I don't think he fights and if he does then it will be in Dream or Sengoku. I remember reading something in sherdog but I'm not sure, I think he is coaching but don't take my word on it.

You saw the fight?

I say Rampage got KO'ed and Arona was talking to ref about him being KO and then he gets slam HAHAHAHAHAHA! If you look closely he kinda looks knocked out.

MarkT
LOL

yeah, Quinton seemed out...at least a 'flash' KO. Arona was an idiot for relying on the ref to stop it. He should have swept Jackson and pummelled him until the ref pulled him off. But Arona was *definitely* out at the end, haha...

Here's the entire fight for anyone interested (Mauro + Bas commentary is 1000x better than listening to that spaz Rogan in UFC).
