Have to agree with #1 even though they have such a random door policy (well everywhere in Berlin seems to).

Berghain is amazing and they now have a Funktion One 6.1 system - it was the best sounding club I have ever been in.

Fresh from their success with the Sunday Adventures Club, Hawtin, Villalobos, Mia and the rest of the electronic bunch are back for another very special one-off event hosted by Berlin's magazine de:bug.

This time the action moves indoors to Berlin's Berghain club, but don't worry there is a very good reason for moving in from the sun - the debut of Berghain's Funktion One / Dolby 6.1 surround sound system.

Yes, we know that sounds incredibly geeky, but if anyone knows about adding an extra dimension the their music through new technology it's Richie Hawtin. With the debut of this system, which he has been working on, refining and tweaking over the last few years, Berghain are sure to strengthen their position as one of the most forward thinking, and important techno clubs in the world.

Plus I think they have the best flyer designs.

I've been to 3 of the top 5 (yes Graham when you see this you can say you've been to 4) snf they are all great.

I would put Guvernment in the top 10.

their door policy is not random..in fact most clubs would be better if they only allowed people in at their discretion. It is about creating a controlled environment consisting of elements (patrons included) that will reflect what you are trying to convey and creating maximum enjoyment.

lol at guv top 10.

the pack em up pack em in cash grab style.

Their door policy is Random...you can get in one week and the following week you can't. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Does it create a great party? Totally. Once you get in you feel privilaged to be in and you don't want to do anything stupid.

Guvernment in terms of clubs is most definetly in the top 10. Just because they pack people in sometimes doesn't mean it isn't a great club...it just means they like most other clubs are going after then money. DC10, Space, were rammed when I was there as well. Graham told me that Fabric was the most crowded and pushy crowd at a club he has ever been to. Should those clubs not be in the top 10? Berghain and other clubs in Berlin don't seem to need or want to pack the clubs. Property value is so low (Berghain and Tresor are in freaking power plants and they use less than a 1/4 of the space)they don't have the overhead and necessity to pack the place.

I would trade the packed crowds at any of those clubs to go to Berghain...however I would just like to know I am going to get in when I want to go(I would have been pissed if I got turned away when I was there a few weeks ago for Richie and Ricardo).

elFreak
fair enough...but really...what makes you think guv should be in the top 10?

and in regards to berghain and panorama i never had a problem getting in while living in berlin. You just have to speak to the regulars and understand what the doorman is looking for. ;)

they do not want tourist types.

The Egg is nothing special, and Privilege is a ing disaster. (granted, one very big pretty disaster)

MK, what's your opinion on "The End" making #6? Wouldn't you say that's relative to Footwork making the list? Both VERY similar venues and both great for the same reasons imo

Apparently your opinion on what makes a club great isn't on par with that of RA readers... (thank for that)
